Cleveland POPS will be collecting new toys and games at our concert on November 29, 2009 to help The City Mission in their drive to help a lot of our city's kids in need have a happier Yuletide season. Please bring an unwrapped new toy or game, suitable for either infants, children or teens, and place it in the special collection bins at the Palace Theatre before the concert. Join Carl Topilow and the POPS for a "surprise" 200th birthday party in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. Meet our sixteenth president in person and experience authentic music of the Civil War era by our guest artists, Saxton's Cornet Band. They recreate, with astounding historic accuracy, the band music Lincoln hear...d during his stay at the White House. The amazing Mutual Gifts Gospel Choir will also be featured. Hear the theme from the movie "Gettysburg." Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" as narrated by the President himself, the moving "Ashokan Farewell," Sousa marches, spirituals, a rousing patriotic sing-along and the movingmedley of Armed Forces theme songs.

You've heard Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" many times, but have you heard the not-so-famous, but very funny "1712 Overture" by P.D.Q. Bach (aka: Peter Schekele.) Be prepared for a real treat.

Venice, Naples, Rome, the sights, sounds and especially the music of Italy is intoxicating. We toast the music of Italy, with popular arias and ballads you will all recognize and sing along. Carl Topilow concucts the Cleveland POPS in an evening of Italian favorites, featuring the beautiful voices of reigning tenor Car...l Tanner and fast-rising American soprano Laura Pedersen. You'll hear familiar arieas from "Turandot," "La Boheme," "I Pagliacci" along with beautifully sung Neapolitan ballads. This is truly a night for Bravo, Brava, Bravissimi!Read More
