Lisa Williams Calling all Commonwealth women out there: know what the Commonwealth is doing about the issues affecting development, gender, and YOU!
The Commonwealth Women’s Network (CWN) brings together women’s and gender-focused civil society organisations from around the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. While its core is the global online network of its membership, regional focal points from the four commonwealth regions (Africa/Europe, Asia, Pacific, Caribbea...n/Canada) play a key role in liaising with the CWN Secretariat, commonly hosted in the same country where the Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Minister’s Meetings (WAMM) are held every three years. Other activities, including advocacy, participation and information-sharing aimed at ensuring a gender perspective to other Commonwealth Meetings, help the network towards its goal of improving the quality of life for women throughout the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Women’s Network (CWN) was established following the first Women’s Affairs Meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985. The CWN was hosted in Trinidad from its first formal meeting in 1992 up to 2004, when it moved to the Fiji Islands where the 7th WAMM was held, and then to Uganda for the 8th WAMM. The 9th WAMM will be held in Barbados in June 2010. At the Commonwealth People’s Forum held in Uganda in November, 2007, the Commonwealth Women’s Network made strong calls on Governments for action to bring about positive change in the situation of women. These included – “A Call to Commonwealth Member States, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Commonwealth Foundation to facilitate the strengthening and development of the Commonwealth Women’s Network, as a mechanism for the promotion of gender equality”. The CWN gained accreditation to the Commonwealth Secretariat in May, 2008.

DOES THE COMMONWEALTH REALLY THINK THAT EXAMINATION IS THE TRUE TEST OF KNOWLEDGE.
IN THE 21ST CY, SHE IS STILL USING GRADES SCORED IN FIRST DEGREES AS PARAMETER FOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS. NOT ONLY THAT, SHE SUBJECTS SOME NATIONS' CANDIDATES TO THE WHIMS OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. THESE I SUGGEST SHOULD CHANGE OR A SEPERA......TE AWARD SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED THAT TESTS CANDIDATES AFRESH BASED ON THEIR PRESENT KNOWLEDGE, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND POTENTIALS. THIS I THINK IS MORE PRODUCTIVE LIKE THE UK HSMP TESTING, ETC. FURTHERMORE MANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE CORRUPT OR UNFAIR.
THIS, HOWEVER, DOES NOT STOP THE COMMONWEALTH FROM SETTING A BENCHMARK OR CONTINUING THE OLD SYSTEM. THIS WIIL BE JUST ADDITIONAL.
THANK YOU.
