Nominees for the 2008-2009 Drama League Awards, which will be held May 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, were revealed April 21. Nominees were announced in four categories: Distinguished Production of a Musical and a Play, Revival of a Musical and Revival of a Play.

Nominations for the 59th annual Outer Critics Circle Awards — which honor the best in Broadway and Off-Broadway theatre — were announced April 20 by Broadway couple Rebecca Luker and Danny Burstein. Billy Elliot and Shrek both earned ten nominations a piece, the most of any show of the season.

On January 27, 2009 the cast of Irena's Vow, led by Tovah Feldshuh, and directed by Michael Parva, was given a rare and prestigious invitation to perform a one-time-only staged reading of the acclaimed play by Dan Gordon at the United Nations. This invitation, the first of its kind extended to a play, was a part of th...e International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This invitation was presented by The Directors Company, Stan Raiff and the Invictus Theatre Company and sponsored by the United States and Polish missions to the United Nations and the Polish Cultural Institute.
