The Golden Bear Huntington Beach

The Golden Bear is arguably the most important landmark in the history of Huntington Beach. It graced the shores of Huntington Beach at Ocean Blvd. (later PCH) and Main Street from 1929-1986.

Kirk Awesome reading all these posts..I worked for the city in parking lot in 69-70, spent many 'lunch' breaks on nite shift in the alley eating my dinner...but did get in to [not mentioned yet] Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Hoyt Axton, John Prine... alot of us [Edison Chargers] were working out @ elementary school when sirens fo...r HB riots went off summer '69...Bear was a refuge for fleeing beachgoers [i heard] ! Thanks all of u 4 memories !

OK, how about this. Do you remember Hungry Joe's @ PCH & 19th in HB, or the Cukoo's Nest in Costa Mesa (Placentia & 17th) those were the days!!!

Peggy I was just a teenager.. but god saw so many bands.. Blondie, Alvin Bishop - who took his guitar out on PCH and played, Surf Punks, so many KROQ bands... got my 1st fake ID taken away there and stapled on the wall with so many others! ha! but your all right. HB is no more.. it kinda sucks really, no more surf theater, M...azotti's, nothing.. its barely worth going back there as it just makes you sad

Jamie-Elizabeth I was a housekeeper at the Huntington Inn in 1972 during my 16th summer. Most of the bands stayed there and generally they were very messy! However it was worth it when they let us in the back door at the Bear. Good times!

Sean Worst thing HB did was close the bear down for the pavillions. Maybe t was for the best , HB isn't the same town either , I don't think they could coexist. It might be too load for the million dollar homes.

Karen I still remember the last show we saw there in the 80's........Rick Danko, of the Band and Paul Butterfield performing together. Fortunately, their music is still with us .........unfortunately, neither of them are, but along with all the other greats they are in our hearts and heads! And, yes it was quite unique goi...ng to a Bear reunion in a smoke free environment :)
