Dear Sarah and Julie,

Penny and I want to thank you and the Home School Foundation for the extraordinary award that you granted to our daughter, Cassandra. The Special Needs Children's Fund has made it totally possible for Cassandra to remain up to date in her educational endeavors. Cassandra's disabilities and our financial constraints caused us great concern about how to cope with her future home school needs. Your generous and timely award made our concerns turn into joy for our daughter's future.

In our initial letter to you, we spoke of Cassandra's disabilities. She has over 200 absence seizures daily along with Asperger's. Yet, this amazing young woman has never considered these circumstances to be anything more than a challenge to overcome. As her father, I want her to have every opportunity possible to succeed. With much prayer and guidance from the Lord, we found you folks, and you opened your hearts to us as you have done for so many others.

We brag about you folks to every home school family we know and are so incredibly pleased that you found our daughter worthy of your award.

Thank you again for sharing your kindness and blessings with our family.

Gratefully,

Tom, Penny, and Cassandra
Dear friends, if I may please call you this, for you all have invested mightily in my life, my son's and daughter's. They are 19 and 21 now and I have returned to work and enjoying it. But there was a time when employment would have been a burden.

You and your donors helped carry us through that time, allowing my children to benefit from homeschooling and a less stressed mom. I had kept my "widow's fund" file till this day when provisions would have it for me to express my gratefulness monetarily back, to share with another widow. May Jesus speak to her heart as he has to mine.

You all came to mind this morning as I worshiped Jesus.

"All the way my Savior leads me."

May He continue to direct your steps to those of need, that they may be refreshed with the freeing and joyous news: "I love you." "I will never leave you or forsake you."

Sincerely,
A widow blessed by your generosity

Good cookbook, Great cause

Several months ago, I began planning my meals using menus. When it came to choosing the recipes, the Homeschool Kitchen was the first cookbook I reached for... even over my trusty Better Homes and Gardens cookbook! I like the fact that these recipes are real food -- not a whole lot of prepackaged short cuts. But they're also easy and unfussy.

"When it came to choosing the recipes, the Homeschool Kitchen was the first cookbook I reached for..."

We've tried many of the recipes. Here are a few that have become mainstays on our menu:

  • Quiche Bites, pg 24 -- easy, rich, and incredibly yummy

  • Layered Guacamole Dip, pg 17 -- no cooking required!

  • Sloppy Joes, pg 84 -- wonderful flavor, not out of a packet

  • Chicken Tetrazzini, pg 129 -- a different take on the usual chicken-and-pasta dish.

  • Barb's Chicken Fajitas, pg 108 -- I didn't actually *like* fajitas until we made this recipe. The marinade is absolutely delicious.

We have many more recipes waiting for a chance to get on the menu. Good cookbook, great cause: what more could I ask for?
