The House and other Arctic musings

The House and other Arctic musings
One of the great things about the start of the Dark Season is that we pretty much have continual sunrise/sets from the moment the sky lightens. In good conditions it is a constantly changing, all "day" light show...
The House and other Arctic musings
Often on a grave in France, there is an inscription. One of the principals of War Graves Commission was that all of the fallen would be treated equally...
The House and other Arctic musings
The H1N1 immunization team came to town this weekend, for a mass immunization that is running for two days (yesterday and today)...
The House and other Arctic musings
I was quite excited with the news that WildBird on the Fly's First Friday contest was being revived. It combines two of my passions, birds and writing...
The House and other Arctic musings
Today marks the start of the dark season in Arctic Bay, the Sun set for the last time until rises again on the sixth of February...
The House and other Arctic musings
Amy, over at WildBird On The Fly, has revived the bird related fiction contest, First Friday. It's a contest that I've enjoyed participating in the first time it was running, even winning a couple of times...
The House and other Arctic musings
As I looked to the sky a little while ago it appeared that someone had taken a giant calligraphy brush to it. This is truly a wonder filled world we live in.
The House and other Arctic musings
I hope to have a longer post about Hallow'een up soon, but in the mean time I give you photos of my children...
The House and other Arctic musings
I received a wonderful card in the mail today from a reader in Queensland. Thank you for the kind kind words, and the beautiful card.*The artwork, by the way, is Leslie Van Der Sluys, a hand coloured linocut print of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos and Banksia.
The House and other Arctic musings
I'm not sure why this story about the Olympic Torch's trip through the north struck me as funny...
The House and other Arctic musings
This doesn't really fall under the category of True Crime, but I was reminded of this story earlier today and thought it worth sharing. And seeing as it does involve mounties, True Crime it is....I don't know how many of you have been to an RCMP Regimental Ball but they are fancy affairs...
The House and other Arctic musings
Showing my complete lack of imagination I give you more sunrise photos, from this morning's trip to drop Leah off at work.
The House and other Arctic musings
Not sure if you tired of seeing my morning skies that are painted for me this time of year, but I'm sure not. Here is one from this morning, I stood on the frosty, snowy deck in bare feet while taking these this morning. A bad example for my children who watched me out there.
The House and other Arctic musings
This morning I awoke to find that the bay had frozen over. It still could go out, its just a thin crust upon the surface and a strong wind would undo it all, but a couple of more days of weather like this (cold and calm) and it will be a done deal for the winter...
The House and other Arctic musings
It should be pretty straight forward...
