The Joely Bear Appeal was launched in 1994 in memory of Joel Renak, who died aged 4 from a rare form of liver cancer.
Since then the appeal has worked on all three of it's aims and h...as achieved remarkable successes. We know that, with your help, we can continue this vital work.
Over 5,000 blood donations have been made at our blood donor sessions and we have added over 1,000 new donors to the national register.
We have campaigned to increase awareness of the importance of giving blood regularly since 1995 and our 45th blood donor session will be held on 6th December 2009 at Borehamwood & Elstree Synagogue, Croxdale Road, Borehamwood, Herts. WD6 4HA.

Willing blood donors did their bit to help save lives at a session in Borehamwood on Sunday 12th July.
More than 170 people visited the session, organised by The Joely Bear Appeal, at Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue.
The Joely Bear Appeal is a charity founded in 1995 in memory of Elstree resident Joel Renak, who died of a rare form of liver cancer aged four.
Twenty-eight new donors, aged between 17 and 65, were recruited at the appeal.
Daniel Renak, of The Joely Bear Appeal, said: “Most pleasing was the fact that many of the new donors had only just turned 17, the age at which you can start donating. Many of these have grown up seeing their parents donate at previous Joely Bear sessions.
“A team of 30-plus willing volunteers also ensured the event ran smoothly and safely from the early morning setup, through the day until the end with security, refreshments, crèche and car park assistance.
Mr Renak added: “Within two weeks of the session, the blood donated there will have been put to essential, life-saving use, whether this is in routine or emergency surgery, treatments for cancer and many other major illnesses and diseases. Without blood donors, these surgeries and treatments would not be possible.”
The Joely Bear Appeal is currently hoping to raise £45,000 towards a fun room in the new wing at Great Ormond Street Hospital, which will open in 2011.
