It's too bad there isn't enough demand in the world economy for more than one heirloom quality tool maker. You don't know what you've got till it's gone. Good that Bulldog is still standing.

November, despite the cold weather, is the time to get into the garden preparing it for spring by planting spring bulbs. When choosing bulbs avoid any that are damaged, or feel soft, instead go for fresh firm and plump bulbs, these will provide the best spring flowering...

In last weeks blog we wrote about the similarity between the great British marque that is Land Rover and our own brand of Bulldog tools. It is a well known fact that a very high percentage of all the Land Rovers ever built are still on the road today. The figure is more than 50%...

Wow! What an incredible time we have had at GLEE this week. The show was smaller than in previous years, but this resulted in a higher standard of exhibitor. We saw a huge increase in interest from buyers wanting to purchase a better quality range of garden tools...

Here in Seattle, Washington, USA, I bought my first Bulldog Border Spade & Fork from Smith & Hawken in 1984. The tools are still going strong after much use and abuse. Smith & Hawken just went out of business, deservedly so. They haven't sold Bulldog tools for some years now, just cheaply made "tools" that were more like prettily packaged toys. Not made for serious digging.

Eric,
Thankyou for your comments. Our tools are hand made by our staff at the Wigan factory here in England. We appreciate your interest. If you care to look on our favorite links you will find a link to the Robert Larson site. They are based in LA and stock a large amount of the Bulldog range under the Clarington Forge brand name. Please let us know your postal address. We would like to send you one of our ratchet secateurs to test. Stuart

Only problem here is that this can leave sharp edges on the inside of the Y, which require easing before use. Learned this one the hard way!

That is a fair point. Each handle is effectively hand made, so you can get some edges missed some times. The overall effect however is to give a better quality finish. If you check out our handles you will see that we always make sure that the grain is running the length of the handle to ensure that the maximum strength is obtained from the natural features of the wood. I hope that you have been happy with your Bulldog spade!
