The Lens Flare Photography Community Photography is easy to learn and hard to master. There are a lot of things a person can do to create a better image, and each of us has a different insight as to what those things are. Please reply with a tip that has improved your photography.

Shutter speeds and focal lengths - to get a crisp picture without using a tripod, use a shutter speed that is faster than your effective focal length. For example, if you're using a 50mm lens (digital lenses are really 1.5x that so it's 75mm), then you need to shoot at 1/75 or faster. If you're using a 35mm lens (effective 52.5mm), you need to ... See Moreshoot at 1/52 or faster. Of course your camera won't have a speed of 1/52 so you'd use 1/60 or whatever the next one is. If you have a 500mm lens (750mm effective), then you need to shoot at 1/750 or faster (1/800 is the typical speed).

If your lens has image stabilization/vibration reduction or if you're using a tripod, then it can be slower and still get a good image.

Weather - don't always take pictures on a bright sunny day. A little bad weather can help create an entirely different image.

Internet Explorer 6 is outdated and no longer supported by Microsoft. It doesn't support web standards. What this means is that every website has to create their web pages to work with the current browsers and then spend additional time making it also work for IE6...

To clarify a point brought up in the forum, Windows ME, 98, and 2000 can't upgrade their browsers past IE6. This currently represents about 1.5% of TLF's visitors.

Once IE6 becomes unsupported, it will still technically "work", but the layout may look odd because there might be too much white space or the graphics may not line up correctly.

If you're talking about your profile picture, FB crops a square from whatever pic you upload. If you want the whole thing to show up, increase the canvas size of your profile pic in Photoshop so that the original image becomes a square then upload it.

When you upload an image to TLF, it resizes it to a 150 pixel thumbnail, 500 pixel standard image, and 900 pixel large image. We're also working on a feature that will let you store full resolution images (with a password for private access) for offsite archive & backup.

Yeah, the blue parakeet looks exactly like Puff :) except Puff was cooler because he could do flips around his sticks. This one was really friendly though. They used to let you feed them at the zoo. -Brian
