The Madd Wikkid Dear The World,

Watch out! This Pres Hall record is on fire.

"From Brandi Carlile's take on the gospel classic "Old Rugged Cross" to Tom Waits' arrangement of the earliest known recorded Mardi Gras Song, "Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing," each artist was able to perform their interpretation of these classics within the wa...rm confines of Preservation Hall's famous performance space. Even New Orleans' own legendary Louis Armstrong, who once said, "Preservation Hall, now that's where you'll hear all the greats," is transported through the decades and can be heard trading licks and vocals on an updated version of his classic "Rockin' Chair."

The complete roster of artists includes: Louis Armstrong, Andrew Bird, Terence Blanchard, Pete Seeger, Dr. John, Blind Boys of Alabama, Brandi Carlile, Cory Chisel, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, Richie Havens, Jason Isbell, Jim James, Angelique Kidjo, Amy LaVere, Anita Briem, Del McCoury, Bobby McFerrin, Buddy Miller, Paolo Nutini, and Tom Waits."

The Madd Wikkid I'm playing a live set on KLSU from 9-11pm tonight. I'll be dropping a lot of cool little nuggets, including "Futuristic Chair". Those that know what that means will be excited. Those that don't will be confused.

It depends on what you mean by that. There's a vibrant and growing creative energy down here. I'd say it's a renaissance of sorts.

Like anything, though, you're going to have to hustle to carve your niche and find your market. It's likely not built-in. There are a lot of people with open minds that actively support local art, though.

Perhaps you should visit first and suss it out.
