I'm disappointed by the continued elitism of journalism schools and journalists. Unpaid internships and more expensive technology requirements contribute to less economic diversity among students. If any of these students are hired by a newspaper upon graduation, they will be as disappointed as I was to learn the corporate world is far behind academia in journalism technology.

Perhaps it is the role of the school to bring the corporate world up to date. After all, the corporate world hasn't exactly done a good job anticipating trends and adapting to them. As far as economic diversity goes, I don't believe it is the 200-300 dollar ipod that is that is the real barrier for low income students but the fact that an inexpensive education costs 10k plus per year.

Wednesday's march is a response to the transgender professor's firing.

He was fired for not meeting requirements. I'm sure a lot of good professors that didn't meet the same requirements were fired as well. The only reason this one is such a big deal is because of his gender and department standing. I'm glad the university didn't give him special treatment because of his gender status or the "diversity" his presence gives to campus.
