Hi all (specially the german-speaking amongst you!),
we just knew from the nice people at Eins Live (WDR) that the German band Deichkind had chosen a song by The Marzipan Man amongst their favourites (along with other names like Faust, Tuxedomoon, New Young Pony Club or The Smiths!).
we can't understand what they say, but we assume it's good (did i hear "fantastisch"?), so i wanted to share with you.

The Marzipan Man
The Marzipan Man offered the sugary treat of the evening – inspired Anglophone experimentalism from Iberia. Jordi Herrera is the self-proclaimed conduit for the faerie Marzipan Man, a strange character who resembles the Lou Reed of will-o-the-wisps. Everything from kazoos and muted car horns to overblown recorders and a melodica sustained Herrera’s androgynous vocals through a twilit world of fairytale creatures, anthropomorphic animals and teenage awakenings – imagine Maurice Sendak and Neil Innes fronting Mazzy Star in a haunted grotto. Songwriting moved along a spectrum from the wry to the spooky on songs like ‘Billy the Fox’ and ‘Buddy the Cat’, which presented the memoirs of a syphilitic Glaswegian tom. The songs felt like the soundtrack to a late-night viewing of Pan’s Labyrinth, but this was no geeky cul-de-sac: the band were an exuberant presence, undercutting the dreamy pieties of their fantasy world with a satisfyingly dirty sense of humour.
