The Mennonite Retiring Mennonite Church USA director Jim Schrag reflects: "Spiritual issues, too, draw people together and keep them apart. The experience of being the church is not entirely a spiritual or cultural human experience. It's both. We get confused when we emphasize one over the other."

Actually, cousin Dennis, the Bible does encourage Christian dialogue, as in Acts 15, when the church in Jerusalem through a process of dialogue decided that circumcision would no longer be required, against the clear command of scripture. Earlier, in Acts 10 and 11, Peter received a vision (out of the blue) that Gentiles and scripturally forbidden... See More meats were now acceptable to God. He then needed to defend this non-scriptural approach through a process of dialogue, and the church (at least the majority, I guess) was satisfied with the change of practice. In both of those cases, there would have been those who said we should just "call sin what it is" and stop the dialogue.

It was really good to see you and shake your hand at John Ruth's program the other night :)

Absolutely rigid regarding sexuality, but wide open regarding military service. Am I the only one who sees something fundamentally wrong with this picture?
