The Mentalists

The Mentalists
Ladies and gents - you're cordially invited to the inaugural - indeed, debut - happening of 'An Event of Some Kind'!

Hosted by The Junior Ministers, and held in the delightful environs of The Cavendish Arms (http://www.thecavendisharmsstockwell.co.uk), it promises to be a night like no other!

The Mentalists will be perf...orming sets throughout the evening. We are fresh from releasing that video of ourselves playing an IPhone cover of MGMT's "Kids" on youtube, unexpectedly becoming geek postergirls overnight. Our music on real instruments is even better, as all Mentalist fans know! Here is our site: http://www.myspace.com/thementalists

We've also got the marvellous Wolfpack of One! He's a one man lo-fi hip-hop folk ipod guitar yelling phenomenon. He has some things on here: http://www.myspace.com/wolfpackofone

There's also the assured comedy stylings of Mr Jim Bass.

And there's the hosts, Junior Ministers, plying their trade and also doing more speaking and poetry and things than they normally would at a gig thing! http://www.myspace.com/juniorministers

Oh! And on top of the music and comedy and stuff, there will be a competition for audience members to draw a picture of one of the acts onstage. Wow! Anthony Minister will buy the winner a drink.

Ah - there's also something about Robert Mugabe. Come along and find out.

Where: Cavendish Arms, 128 Hartington Road Stockwell, SW8 2HJ
When: 7.30pm-1am, Friday April 10, 2009
Cost: £5

THE DASH
The Dash have torn through London's hottest venues with their acrobatic and frenzied stage shows and adrelanine fuelled grimy assault of pure punk.
The Dash have built up their reputation gigging around London, doing regional shows and some European dates for around two years, supporting the likes of Gossip, Santogold, Black Lips, Robots In Disguise, Alphabeat, The Go! Team, The Libertines, Art Brut, Babyshambles, Glen Matlock, Biffy Clyro and Editors amongst others. They have played sold out nights at Barfly, Marquee, The Garage, Surfstock Festival, Middlesex University Summer Festival, the sadly missed Infinity, 93 Feet East and Death Disco as well as play in front of 1,200 fans at Camden Koko, London's bright hopes also found time to jet across the pond to rock New York's The Delancey.
The band played at this year's Surfstock festival in Cornwall as well as 2007’s The Great Escape Festival in Brighton in May, joining CSS, Art Brut, Hot Club De Paris, Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Mumm-Ra, Willy Mason and Yes Boss and at the 1234 Shoreditch Festival alongside Har Mar Superstar, Dogs, Ali Love and The Paddingtons

The Dash have recently been recording their debut album at Q Lab Studios in Basel, Switzerland, which is being prduced by Aiden Gilligan, following the release of their debut single 'Broomhouse Road' through Weekender Records at the end of 2008. The 7" vinyl received rave reviews including:
"The purity of their now infamous live performances transcends perfectly onto disc, smell the sweat, taste the beer, feel the forearm in your back as the raw, energetic, adrenaline-fuelled sound of ‘Broomhouse Road’comes through your stereo leaving your speakers discoloured with a thick layer of London dirt. Expect big things." GIGWISE
"The Dash catches the boyish charm and anger of The Clash with the carefree exuberance of The Libertines, making for an intoxicatingly addictive concoction that spits angrily along to a melodic energy that instantly engages and refuses to let go." ROOM THIRTEEN
"Sparring riffs, knee jerking brittleness grafted on to a raw and potent undercarriage of alarmingly infectious boot blistering boogie - dare you resist." ROUGH TRADE
Their infamous live performances leave the stage in ruins as blood, beer and sweat coat the remains of smashed and battered instruments. Seeped in passion and honesty and coated with a thick layer of London dirt, the music comes straight from the heart of every underground gutter punk club, without ignoring the impact of the unforgettable chorus.
The Dashettes - the band's fans - even staged a party at one of London's Broomhouse Rd for a playback of the band's first demo and new single. Their first demo ‘Alone No More’ was produced by the renowned Gordon Raphael, after he saw the lads playing live and offered to work with them for free. Their live show is raw, passionate and energetic, just like their music. Combining indie/punk ideals with a marketable pop sensibility, the band capture audiences with their personal thought-provoking lyrics and their catchy appealing musical scores

THE OFFICERS
The Officers’ debut show was late last summer in London at the Camden Barfly. Assignations at Being Boiled and Alan McGee’s Death Disco swiftly followed, which led to them being invited to play the monster indie-dance club night Insomniacs’ Ball in October.
It also hasn't taken long to attract the eyes, ears and support of such artists as Jagz Kooner, Atticus Ross, The Music, Happy Mondays and Freelance Hellraiser. Eddy Temple Morris @ Xfm, choosing his tip for the future, says:
‘This demo is astonishing. I'm getting the same feeling of impending greatness that I did when I played Kasabian's demo. The Officers are my favourite new band by a f**king country mile.’
Music Week: ‘A cataclysmic slice of sexual tension, driving electronic pulses and beautifully powered vocals.’
This 5 piece from Leeds engulf you with their dark electro basslines, massive guitar grooves, incendiary beats and rock and roll swagger. Pulling from a range of influences from the likes of The Jesus & Mary Chain, Timbaland and Stetasonic, they create filthy and compulsive electronic rock’n’roll.
Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream/Radio 4/Reverend & The Makers) recorded their first tracks, with the resulting demos being used by All Saints clothing.
Their live rock’n’roll assault in 2007 included: being handpicked by Eddy Temple Morris for his Remix Night; appearances with Placebo, The Cooper Temple Clause, Reverend & The Makers, and The Courteeners; and being invited to play at Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany, the XFM stage at Secret Garden Party and Beached Festival, while the summer of 2008 saw the band being personally requested by Rob Harvey to support The Music on two legs of their sold out 'Four Cities' tour.
The band have just finished recording what is planned to be the first single with longtime Radiohead producer and engineer Graeme Stewart.

The Mentalists
"...All girls but there is no cliché 'girl band' thing about them! It's their technical strength, great songs and a fantastic stage presence that makes them potentially strong competitors for the Brits
Best Newcomers Awards'

The Mentalists merge Psychedelic synths and blues guitars with sparkling vocals, and glorious Beachboys (or Beachgirls!)harmonies. Along with their catchy beats and magnetic melodies, they spread lovin, dancin and the word of Mentalism wherever they go!
"Having built up an army of hangover TV fans by finishing in the top 5 of Channel 4's mobileAct, the girls have gone on to play the summer
festivals around Europe including Glastonbury 2008, Briancon festival, La Nuit Blanche, and to support acts including The Mystery Jets, Dirty Pretty Things, Babyshambles, Ebony Bones, The Automatic and Kate Nash."

SEVASA
Sevasa (formerly VivaCity) are a 3 piece outfit hailing from Reading, a town with an endless conveyor belt of quality music. Put together in 2006, Sevasa play no nonsense guitar driven tunes that will catapult you to a place that fills you with energy and vibrancy. Sevasa are Craig, Adam and Carl, the two front men were in a band before leaving to start up Sevasa, they have been playing together since 98. With no drummer, Carl stepped up. Despite never having played the drums he was a quick learner and is now a very accomplished musician. The next stage was to produce music that would capture the mind and soul of people. They now have a fantastic catalogue of tunes to their name and in 'Back To Basics' have an anthem for their ever increasing band of fans to smash it up to. They play venues wherever their guitars lead them and have a very large hardcore set of fans. Sevasa and their no nonsense rock and roll will have you wanting for more, catch this 3 piece outfit at a venue near you soon, you will not be disappointed.

THE BIBELOTS
Bibelots are Neil Athey, Ben Richardson, Gaz Evans and Tim Fielding, a rock n roll band based in East London.
Formed last year they spent endless hours in the studio fine tuning a set to unleash on the music loving public. Then the singer went to Asia for 3 months. He returned to find that the hard work had been done and the band were a mere month away from gigging.

The first gig at the legendary Tommy Flynns was followed up by more throughout North London including a turn on the Camden Crawl which was duly noted by journos (one in particular!) and music fans alike.
Lyrically like no other and influences drawn from all types of bands and styles. Catchy riffs and sing along tunes means that you wont forget a Bibelots gig - Animal Magic indeed!

"Great live, brilliant lyrics and tons of energy" Clarke, Virgin Radio
"A brilliant live act with great indie rock tunes with dance influences and brit pop tendencies. Always happy to have them here" - The Good Ship
"I didn't think I'd enjoy a support band on the Camden Crawl as much as this!" - Gerry (Six Nation State)

"Always put on a good show. They've filled the venue both times they've played with us and by the end everyone seems to be singing along!" - Bug Bear promotions
"I love it. Brilliant. Techno Techno Techno" Danniel Hollingshead, Donkey and The Tulip
