Toronto - La Roux is an English synth pop duel featuring synth player and lead vocal Elly Jackson and her partner in production - Ben Langmaid. They make 80s dance synth pop music in the veins of Annie Lennox mixed with the Human League mixed with the Pet Shop Boys...

This is a dual-review. Allison’s Perspective: Guy: [Unimpressed] Hmph, sounds like she’s hitting a baby with a cat. Lisa: You have to listen to the notes she’s NOT playing. Guy: [Still unimpressed] Pssh, I can do that at home...

Toronto - Medeski, Martin & Wood, hereafter referred to as MMW, played Nathan Phillips square last Saturday night. This New York-based band skirts the line between jazz and electronica, with elements of hip-hop and rock beats thrown in for good measure...

Toronto - If this is their setlist for their upcoming North America tour, sign me up, even if I have to go to shitty Barrie for V-Fest. Setlist: 1. Girls And Boys 2. Tracy Jacks 3. There’s No Other Way...

Toronto - I guess everyone has had their say on Jacko biting it the other day. What a weird, weird day. First Farrah Fawcett dies, then Michael Jackson, then the NBA draft. What’s with all these two bit celebrities giving their opinions and sentiments...

Toronto - Sorry for the late review, but I think everyone would agree that Jacko is in the highlight right now. Back when he was still planning his comeback last week Thursday I saw One hundred dollars (I’ll just short-hand $100) and The Deep Dark Woods at the Dakota, following Coeur de Pirate...

Toronto - It’s been awhile since I’ve written about my other love(s) - food & Hong Kong. Recently purchases of Fruitips in Chinatown have me inspired to assemble a list of foods I had whilst growing up in Hong Kong (aka the best city on Earth)...

Toronto - I will be the first to admit, I don’t really “get” Animal Collective. I know a lot of Queen street rayban wearing vintage clothes hipsters think they are the next coming of Jesus but I never really got into their music...

Toronto - Last Saturday CBC Radio 3 hosted a night of music at the Horseshoe Tavern. The night began with performances by Woodpigeon and DD/MM/YYYY. The third band of the night was Ruby Coast, hailing from Aurora, Ontario...

Toronto - It’s easy to cover shows that fall to one extreme or the other on the enjoyment spectrum. Great shows and terrible shows are both easy to write home about. It’s the middling shows where you really need to distill what it is you’d like to convey...

*Our view from the toilet in the basement Last Saturday night the Panic Manual crew crashed a NXNE after-party at Henri Faberge’s (of the Adorables) house...

Coeur de Pirate(Béatrice Martin) was good. Jian Ghomeshi told all of Canada on his show that morning that they should head down to the Dakota Tavern to check her out. And they did. Jian showed up too...

Toronto - Let’s just say I doubt any city other than Austin TX has the stamina to run 5 days of 12 hr music festival packed with people from all walks of life who collectively have probably walked all of Earth. But Toronto is doing a fine job trying...

Toronto - In these hard economic times, who appreciates a free show more then young 20 something year old indie hipsters who choose work in record stores, coffee shops and vintage clothing outlets instead of getting real jobs? Nobody...

Toronto - Recorded on Wednesday, technical difficulties prevented our podcast from being released til today. Rest assured, this is probably our best one yet, according to Brian. Join us as we talk about the Jazz Festival, North By Northeast, “Indie” pendence day, and of course, our BBQ...

Toronto - NXNE probably brings in a lot of out of towners, well, let us local types let you know where to stand for certain popular venues. The Horseshoe Tavern is “legendary” and will probably host a majority of the good shows at NXNE. It is on 370 Queen Street West near Queen and Spadina...

Toronto - The gentle 80s montage vibes of Fred Falke is everywhere this summer. First, he remixed the Gossip’s new track, now he has done it again with Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks...

Toronto - I’ll be the first to confess, I was not sure what was the song that made James Blunt famous..at first, I thought it was ‘Your body is a wonderland’, then I thought it was the song from the movie Closer..finally I found out it was ‘You’re Beautiful’...

Toronto - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is the third album from English band Kasabian. It was produced by Dan The Automator and is set to be released tomorrow. Based on some early listens, this album is surprisingly good...

Vancouver - With the recent heatwave Vancouver has been experiencing, it would seem fitting to have a band like Camera Obscura adding to it with their warm pop sounds but their performance on Friday night was enough to to have any twee fan cower deep within their anoraks only to peep out...

Toronto - It’s been a few years since Simian Mobile Disco’s debut “Attack Decay Sustain Release” rocked dance floor everywhere...

This week’s Friday Night Dance Party feature is kind of a combination between that and a review. It’s worth it though, so hang tight. Basically, it’s another case of “last to know” for me....

Toronto - Anyone that knows me knows that I have obsessive tendencies towards the bands Suede and Pulp. Those two bands will always be 1a and 1b in my favorite bands list...

Toronto - If there was an awards season for blogosphere music, Passion Pit would probably win the 2009 award for most hyped band. Much like Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend and many others before, this Massachusetts band has been endlessly written about n recent times...

Over The Top Festival: Boys Who Say No, Oh No Forest Fires and Five Blank Pages [Mod Club, May 23rd]
(Toronto) Ah yes, an early Saturday night show at the Mod Club. There is something weird about going to a concert when it is still light out and it’s too early to be drunk. First up was Toronto band Boys Who Say No. I liked them...

Ricky recently reviewd the new Au Revoir Simone album Still Night, Still Light , which I am quite enjoying. As a lover of all things stop motion, I came across this new commercial for US Cellular which features The Lucky One from Au Revoir Simones’ last album, The Bird Of Music...

Here’s why I disliked the movie: 1) some serious plot holes 2) crappy script 3) no reason to care about any characters including John Connor even though we’ve invested more in him than Heidi did on her boobs...
