Company Overview:: The roots of The Post-Crescent go back to 1853, when the Ryan brothers collaborated to print The Appleton Crescent, named after a big bend in the Fox River that swept around the building where the weekly paper was printed. It was created primarily to further the cause of the Democratic Party. In 1859, the Republican Party began The Appleton Motor that in 1866 became The Appleton Post. The two papers battled, first as weeklies then as dailies, until Feb. 2, 1920, when a merger produced the first Appleton Post-Crescent. The paper moved to its current Washington Street location in 1932, and remained family owned until 1983 when it was purchased by Thomson. Production of The Post-Crescent moved to a new production facility on July 11, 2000, and the sale of the paper to Gannett was completed 10 days later. The facility now serves as the publishing site for three Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers, including The Post-Crescent. The P-C celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2003, the same year it was named Gannett's Most Improved Newspaper. (read less)
