The Progressive Christian Alliance
The Progressive Christian Alliance seeks to unite followers of Jesus and reclaim our hijacked faith. This movement is one fueled by love, the message of grace, and the desire to leave no one on the outside looking in.

Mean UncleMike

Mean UncleMike I do think that Christian churches need to make a clear distinction between themselves and the christians who are into hate and fear. How can the Spirit of God work through them? Is He even in them? Christians are tarnished by the sins of the fundamentalists and many evangelicals. "Come ye out from among them and be ye separate".

All Christians are evangelical, it means proclaiming good news. We need to reclaim the term.

AMEN... but we too must make it clear - it is for everyone... and Pray, Pray and Pray some more... what we can not do... we all know God can... if it's to open hearts and minds - who better to go to...

The Progressive Christian Alliance "As the Christian Church faces an uncertain future I am convinced that we who are members of it need to think afresh about how to live; the death of creeds and doctrines; the impact of history remembered, history interpreted and history developed into theology… whatever ‘God’ is deserves better than that" ~ John Churcher

She was close to death after a long life and she was on a mission. With one foot in heaven, the elderly Josephine’s mighty spirit stayed with her frail body and would not cross over until a deep wound in her family was healed. ...

The Progressive Christian Alliance "What if a community of faith viewed itself not so much as centered around the paradigm of intellectually assenting to the same or different sets of propositional truths; but rather as the place in which to expect to experience an event that radically transforms ones own intersubjectivity?" ~ Thomas Just

The Progressive Christian Alliance In Jesus' sacrifice upon the cross, traditional power was overturned and the cross which was a symbol of oppression became a symbol of liberation. Sadly, in the eyes of many, the cross has become once again a symbol of oppression. Lord, please forgive us.

In speaking of sacrifice, I was purposely co-opting some fundamentalist language and theology,so that I might suggest that oftentimes we are guilty of sacrificing others upon the same instrument of oppression that was used to put Jesus to death....

Amen! The cross has sadly been used by many as a weapon. A great book and movie on the topic is Constantine's Sword - highly worth reading and/or viewing.

The Progressive Christian Alliance "I tell Jews to remain as Jews and Muslims to remain as Muslims. Jesus has taught me that you are worthy to be loved as you are, you have the right to be different from me and you still be loved. It is only by accepting you, loving you and witnessing to my own faith in Christ before you that I can be saved." ~Elias Cha...cour (Palestinian Catholic priest and Israeli citizen)

I second your comments, Steve.

When I'm called to witness I'm pleading the fifth. That's a part of evangelicalism that's always bugged me. Talk about taking scripture out of context. The disciples were told to be Jesus' witnesses because, duh, they were actual witnessess to the events they described. I am no more a witness to the historical Jesus than I am to the Hindenburg disaster.

I am (at least, I think I am), since I am a Christian, one who bears good news, that is to say, an evangelist. The good news is that, despite our many faults and sins, God loves us and in his love he canceled our debts to him through the work of his Son and adopted us as his children and heirs with Christ to a spiritual fortune. ... The best way to share this good news is by sharing-double duh-giving one's attention, concern, and resources to the benefit of another. "Witnessing" comes across as a sales pitch; inauthentic, hollow, and disingenuous.

the week of Jan 3rd we are hosting 3 homeless families in our church for a week, providing food, companionship and a warm place to sleep. we do this at least 4 times a year, along with several other churches, with whom we take turns,so the families always have a warm place to stay.Druing the day they stay at the local "Y" where showers are available.WE do the laundry.

The Progressive Christian Alliance "The danger of Christmas is that when the newness of life enters life it's among the dirty, the outcast and the cast aside. It reveals that God is dangerous, preferring to play with those outside of power. Christmas challenges what it means to be human and reveals the danger of God." ~Jason Derr

We as Christians, need to remember this that Jesus did not come seeking riches, but he came for us and our benefit. He came to teach the lost sheep of the congregation of the true Church, us. He came First to the Jews then to the Gentiles by the way of grafting us in.
