The Quarterly Conversation

The Quarterly Conversation But wait! Since there were so many great responses, I asked the random number generator to pick me one more winner for a copy of Zak Smith's book We Did Porn, just published by Tin House. The lucky recipient of that one is Paul Ketchum. Juliet and Paul, get in touch with me with your addresses so I can send you your booty.

The Quarterly Conversation

The Quarterly Conversation You all made it incredibly hard to pick a winner, so in the end I threw it to the random number generator, who picked Juliet Ulman. Congrats to Juliet!

Philip Robinson

Philip Robinson if i win this book i will burn it on fireworks night on the fourth plinth, and i dont even know what it is , if its dan brown agagtha christie or harry potter then definitely needs burning.

Lorraine

Lorraine Cool, I didn't realise you had your own fan page with pictures and all that - this looks good! ;) x

Danny Collier

Danny Collier I deserve to win this book because you didn't hear my post until after the deadline hit.

Katherine Sturtevant

Katherine Sturtevant If I were to win this book it would sit on my shelf, mammoth, reproachful, until I became compelled at last to read it. And then I would finally have read something by Pynchon.

Maureen Tobin

Maureen Tobin Thirty-six years ago, a man handed me Gravity's Rainbow and told me to read it. I tried but failed- I was only fifteen. I tried every year after and finally succeeded at 21. I'm 51 now, and I still think about that man from time to time. Wish I could have made him some banana pancakes.

Joshua

Joshua I deserve this book because I love Pynchon (even Vineland) and do not require tattoos to prove it (but really I have no room for one, thanks to my Auster/DeLillo sleeves).

Cari Peri

Cari Peri I want it because Gravity's Rainbow is just too damn difficult to get through without the illustrations. Everyone loves a good picture book and as a senior English major, I'd relish the chance to be a "kid" again for once!

(oops posted in wrong spot) Do i deserve to win this book? Hell yes, i do! I am a huge Pynchon fan. I'm even considering Pynchon tattoos -- one being "A screaming comes across the sky" (GR's first sentence), the other being "There is time, if you need the comfort, to touch the person next to you..." (from GR's final p...age). I read GR for the most part during downtime at my crappy job. The novel would be in front of me, a guidebook to one side, a glossary and character list beyond that, a dictionary on my other side, and Zak Smith's Web site with his illustrations on my computer monitor. Back then, Zak was still trying to get the project published; I'm happy he succeeded. His art really enhances a reading, and it's so fascinating to see another's perspective on all the goings-on. Winning this book would make me happy not only for its content, but for the memories it'd evoke of that time in my life and how i could escape into such a powerful masterpiece of literature. Please, oh please?Read More

Jeremy Osner

Jeremy Osner Dear The Quarterly Conversation, I believe we can all recognize that I deserve to win a copy of Zak Smith's illustrated Gravity's Rainbow; it's just so obvious when you think about it. I've spent (in every meaningful sense) my entire life building up to the moment of winning this book -- it will be a climactic moment (though it will pave the way for no resolution.)

Kip Manley

Kip Manley I love Pynchon. I love comics. (It's technically a comic.) I don't like bananas much, but I could get used to them. Who else would you give it to?

Paul Ketchum

Paul Ketchum It's my freaking birthday today.
