The Rancho Cordova Post Local businesses are struggling. Many are closing their doors and cutting staff. The City of Elk Grove is actively supporting their business community with more than $275,000 in incentives this year. How can the RC community help support local small businesses during these tough economic times? Let us know in the comments or drop us a line at editor@ranchocordovapost.com or 776-NEWS, we want to hear your ideas.

I suggest that all of us make a conscious effort to spend our money locally. Support the mom-n-pop shops, the local small diners. Try as much as possible to spend our money in Rancho Cordova!

Target and Kohls opened and thats good but so many empty buildings have always been Rancho Cordova s problem. we just keep building and the rent goes up and up so the smaller business can not rent, then you have Folsom Blvd. with all the trash and building that are boarder up, light rail run business away,so does the 98Cent Store, Ross and United... I have had pople make fun of me for living here, with hope this City will work to make it a better place to live, I have been here sence 1985 and have seen alot of change and not all for the best, the city is two citys in one old vs new.

How about giving a ONE YEAR tax/fees holiday for all new businesses and SIX MONTHS for existing ones? If this caused ONE HUNDRED new businesses to start and allowed for as many existing ones to offer promotions/sales/specials it could result in many more people getting a paycheck instead of assistance, which results in more commerce and that helps revenue in the long run.

I feel your pain . . . my kid's school district (Natomas Unified School District) is moving forward with closing a school as well. In the end, it hurts the kids the most.

"It is now time to split the district and/or vote the entire school board out!" Now there is a battle cry out of touch with poltical reality. Take a tip from someone who ran the campaign office that defeated the City of Folsom in their attempt to split the school district in 1996, and has been following and involved in school politics ever since... Read More. You are never going to have a more pro-Rancho Cordova school board than the one currently seated. Things are only going to go downhill, from your perspective, after Richard Shaw retires in 2010. (City of Folsom + Newbies in Rancho south of 50 + RC City Hall) = (AKT + Elliott Homes + Aerojet) > Rancho north of 50

"All this 'North and South' talk sounds like you're expecting a civil war."

In this part of the world, whisky is for drinking and water is for fighting. First the 1997 development of the City of Folsom south of 50 was killed by the Rancho Cordova Incorporation Committee and the School Board by the rediscovery of perchlorate in Rancho Cordova's ... Read Morewater supply. The water for that expansion of Folsom was supposed to come from Rancho Cordova's last remaining surface water supply. Subsequently there have been battles about re-opening wells around Peter J. Shields to accomodate the construction of Stone Creek, and then the fight over direct re-use in White Rock when housing demand south of 50 was still high. We now have a lull in the action because of the housing glut, but the conflict will inevitably return when the economy bounces back.

Stone Creek and Capitol Village are hooked directly into Gold River's water supply, but old Rancho depends on wells during the warm part of the year. Anatolia has purple pipes for the future use of Aerojet effluent to water lawns.

If they are honest about it, City Hall will be promoting the adoption of water meters in north Rancho Cordova to allow greater water conservation for more development in south Rancho Cordova; if City Hall slips into The Dark Side, however, they will be pumping Aerojet snake oil into the taps of low-income neighborhoods.

I think the most important part of David Sander's message is that it raises the possibility that the City and the Park District will REFUSE to occupy the abandoned schools, which will allow a charter school to move into at least one of them.

The last we heard they had an approved building permit, yet did not believe there were enough rooftops in the area to build the grocery store. It seems the construction will be on hold indefinitely.
