So we add Michael Jackson to a list that includes James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. All became money-making machines after their untimely deaths.
But it's hard to find any Jackson memorabilia in Galesburg these days.

The Register-Mail At least once a month, Roger Hunter Jr. tries to make it to Peck Park in Galesburg and sit with fellow rail fans, watching trains pass by on one of the four tracks that intersect at that location. The enthusiasts shoot pictures and record video, most of which find its way to YouTube.


The Register-Mail Galesburg police and fire department officals are on the scene of a plane crash north of Galesburg Municipal Airport. The plane was reported upside down in a field 300 yards north and 300 yards west of Cactus Country on West Main Street. Officials say the small plane lost power after take-off and went down in the field. The pilot, from Cedar Rapids suffered minor head injuries and was transported to a hospital.

The Register-Mail A former Galesburg woman was found shot to death Saturday at a closed medical clinic in northwestern South Carolina in what police are calling a murder and attempted suicide.

Former Knoxville High School athlete and Galesburg boys basketball assistant Jason Gray was a dad for 53 days. This would have been the 29-year-old’s first Father’s Day.
“He always knew he wouldn’t get to raise him,” said his mother, Pat Gray.




The Register-Mail An “overwhelming” majority of those surveyed support random drug testing in Galesburg High School, according to the head of the committee charged with presenting the school board with data on the issue.



























The Register-Mail Travis Wilhite, store manager at Wal-Mart Supercenter, 659 Knox Square Drive, said the fireworks, camping and other 4th of July activities are an annual boon to the Galesburg economy. Managers of major Galesburg supermarkets said hamburgers, watermelons and soda pop are some of the traditional big sellers.
