Time is running out on this year’s supply of Forelle pears. While other varieties of pears are more common on grocery shelves, Forelle pears have a short season- from October through late winter. So the last of the bounty is about to disappear and will reappear with the pumpkins next Hallowe’en.

Scones
These tiny tasty treats are great to eat anytime. And that I do! I make a batch and they are gone before the end of the day. I have to start making two batches because they are so delectable. We drink tea very day and these are the perfect accompaniment.
According to foodreference.com here is a brief history of t...he scone:
"Scones got their start as a Scottish quick bread. Originally made with
oats and griddle-baked, today’s version is more often made with flour
and baked in the oven. As for the origin of the word “Skone”, some say it comes from the Dutch word schoonbrot,
which means beautiful bread, while others argue it comes from Stone of
Destiny, where the Kings of Scotland were crowned. According to
Webster’s Dictionary, scones originated in Scotland in the early 1500s."
