I am amazed at all this fame he acheived. My cousin (now deceased) was his ex daughter in law. His grandsons RANDY AND MICHAEL FINSTER are my 2nd cousins. I remember Mr Finster from my childhood and going to see my cousin and she gave us a tour of his museum. It was a little scary to me, some of the things he had in th...ere, well, like I said, I was scared! This was in the 60s. Maybe when he first started that at his home.Read More

I first visited the Garden in the early 1980s. I took a lot of pics and will share some of them with this group in the future. I had Finster on my radio show (WTJU) in the 1990s and he did some great promos for my show--He was here in Charlottesville for the Virginia Film Festival...he did the festival poster. I also w...ent to Atlanta for the opening of the Garden-Works he donated to the High Museum.

Though there are probably thousands of amazing quotes from him...one of my favorites is: "The living grass of a better world—the grass of Life and Beauty to remain".

Alice A Calhoun

Alice A Calhoun I love Howard Finster's artwork - such an amazing, magical sensibiliity. I visited Paradise Gardens in the late 80's and am glad I saw it before it was taken to museums. I feel very lucky to have some of his artwork; it always makes me smile.

Julie

Julie Howard was a great man filled with beauty and talent. I met him only once but could feel the warmth that he exuded. I have a pic of him with my daughter when she was a baby- I will have to find it. I own two small peices of his art that I cherish. I look forward to seeing him again one day!
