The Sexual Continuum Blog Help us name a new study! Next month we will be starting a longitudinal study of 450 young gay and bisexual men and we need a project name. The study focuses on a cluster of health issues (HIV, depression, substance use). We need a cool name for the project that would make young guys want to join. So far two names ...came forward: "Swagger" and "450 Crew" (meaning the number of guys in the study). Any other ideas?

The Sexual Continuum Blog A Wall Street Journal article on coming out in the workplace that quotes me. The comments on the online version are interesting.

Despite major strides in acceptance over the last 15 years, many gay men and lesbian women still struggle with the decision to come out at work.

The article itself is pretty lame in a "how to avoid boxing day rush" lame but as you said, the comments are quite interesting. Especially Robert Summer.

Thanks for the post after all.

This great comment was just posted on the blog in regards to this posting.

"I was in line to pay for gas one day in Tampa FL. There was an effiminate young man about 5'6", maybe 130 lbs. He had pulled up in a VW Beetle with a rainbow sticker. I happen to be 205 lbs, 6'2" and well trained in the martial arts. A group of three teen boys came in, shouted "Who owns the fag mobile?" and glared at the thin young man. I said "That would be my fag mobile" An elderly black gentleman raised his hand. "My car is a fag mobile too." The woman behind the counter said "I drive a fag mobile. What the hell you gonna do about it?"

The three young men looked completely shocked, backed out, and peeled out of the gas station in their battered pick up truck.... See More

It was completely spontaneous, and when the young man whispered "Thanks" I realised what a change this place has made in me. I moved here in 1990 full of myself and homophobic, but since I now live in a gay-friendly neighborhood and work in an office surrounded by all kinds of diverse people, I am more protective of the people I see as victims of any abuse."
