I am totally crazy for these hot and sweet pumpkin seeds. I used a combo of pumpkin and acorn squash seeds (yes you can eat them) with this topping from 101cookbooks. Crazy addicting. I can't get enough!

Don't let all those pumpkin seeds go to waste, toasting pumpkin seeds is easy! This year I tried some different flavor combinations: Sweet & Spicy Toasted Pumpkin Seeds, Black Tea & Butter Toasted Pumpkin Seeds, and Curried Toasted Pumpkin Seeds.

The Skinny Gourmet Had vegetarian sweet potato hash in a burrito with cheese for lunch yesterday. Holy smokes y'all. These souther folks might be onto something here.

The Skinny Gourmet brings together the worlds of healthy and gourmet eating by focusing on smart indulgences and eschewing quirky diet tricks. Because living well should not be punishment, and eating well should not be a crime. ...

The Skinny Gourmet Making huevos rancheros for a potluck brunch tomorrow with tomatillo salsa fresca (man they are delicious raw!). Its being hosted by a vegan, so in addition to eggs for the omnivores, I am making Mario Batali's pan fried polenta as a vegan option. Hooray for brunch!

The Skinny Gourmet Nostalgia for the food of your college days has so many ways to go wrong. Was it always that greasy? But sometimes there is a big win, such as the inspired sandwich from Take It Away near University of Virginia. A knockoff homemade version of pastrami, roasted tomatoes, baby spinach, spicy mustard and white cheddar on artisanal rye is lurking in my bag, tempting me.

The Skinny Gourmet Why is it that the hand-to-mouth action seems so conducive to thinking? I can't seem to write today without a little bowl of warm, freshly popped popcorn.

For all the authority we grant to science in matters of nutrition, culture still has a lot to teach us about how to choose, prepare and eat food.

The Skinny Gourmet is thinking about grilled cheese. The hubs just served up a delicious combo: sharp cheddar, cumin gouda and chevre with fresh basil on whole wheat. Drool-worthy. Do you have a favorite grilled cheese combo that walks off the beaten path?

The Skinny Gourmet Am now one degree of separation from Julia Childs. Took a class today in classical french techniques (a "salute to Julia") with a chef who studied under Julia Childs. Made killer souffle, coq a vin, roquefort tarts, the works!

The Skinny Gourmet sitting on couch watching Madmen. Have gone through the strawberries and now just spooning freshly whipped cream with rum and lemon straight into my mouth. Decadent.

The Skinny Gourmet This lingering cold is killing me. Have boiled two chicken carcases to make homemade stock, and have tons of it left. Do you have a killer chicken soup recipe with a secret ingredient? Dill? Lemon? Capers? I'm looking for something creative and out of the ordinary.

Sorry for the long blog absence! I've been cooking and stockpiling delicious recipes, but work and illness have kept me from posting.
