The Unlikely Disciple

I can't put it down. Caught my eye at B&N..over a latte I skimmed some pages...smirked wildly as I read it...and thought Oh I gotta get this..and did....can't wait to finish but kind of sad when it ends..cause it's really something I look forward to reading every evening.

But from somewhere mid-point on I was just compelled on a deeper level and couldn't put it down... partly because I knew you were coming to the point of Jerry's passing, but also simply because you're just a fantastic writer, so transparent, so descriptive. I felt like I knew you and all your friends before it was done - even your family... excellent, excellent.

A fabulous read for anyone wanting a bit of insight into the culture that is the Christian Right. Growing-up part of that you nailed it on the head. I am now the black sheep of the family with my left-wing views but I enjoyed your journey to the Other side and found myself chuckling out loud. Took the quiz and got 14/15! Your writing and story-telling are amazing and I wish you much success in your life! Thank you for sharing.

Other than that, it is important to understand the Bible, if for no other reason than it is a frequent category on Jeopardy.

I'm not religious at all but I do try to study religious texts simply for how helpful they can be in understanding art and literature. I've read the Quran in its entirety, good portions of the Old and New Testaments, and basic studies of the tenants of Hinduism and Buddhism, and it's invaluable knowledge to have.
