The Varmint Hunters Association - The VARMINT HUNTER Magazine® A record fifty-two teams participated in the 2009 V.H.A. Coyote Calling Contest. The conditions were great for calling in a lot of hungry dogs. The top three teams each brought in nine dogs. Congratulations to the place winners. Thanks go out to all of the participants. Thanks also go out to all of the sponsors.

The Varmint Hunters Association - The VARMINT HUNTER Magazine® We held our last 600 yard match of the season on September 26. The calm winds allowed for records to be broken. We crowned Neil Rogers as our 2009 Stock class champion and Glen Sterling Jr. as our Light Gun, Heavy Gun, 2-Gun and 3-Gun champion. Way to go guys!

We went out and played in the dark last night with two laser designators from Laser Genetics. We snapped a few pictures comparing the beam size between the two units on their lowest settings at 600 yards.

The Varmint Hunters Association - The VARMINT HUNTER Magazine® The Nats finished up yesterday afternoon. We had 50 light gun shooters and 48 heavy gun shooters. We were pleased to see the SD wind show up on Friday (we have to live up to our reputation). Saturday was calm. So, those shooters who were able to keep it on paper on Friday were able to produce an 8-target aggregate. No ...world records were shot but there was plenty of amazing shooting.

The Varmint Hunters Association - The VARMINT HUNTER Magazine® This is stage 3, the Escaping Coyote of the Bushmaster Mr. Coyote Contest. The shooter exchanges his rifle for a shotgun. Five clay birds are thrown on the ground (running rabbit for you sporting clays shooters) in front of the shooter. They first get a single target. Then they get two sets of following pairs. This stage is worth 100 points.
The Varmint Hunters Association - The VARMINT HUNTER Magazine® This is stage 2, the Moving Coyote of the Bushmaster Mr. Coyote Contest. A life-sized coyote target is set in motion at 100 yards. Shooters will take two shots at the target. They have the choice of taking two shots at once or having the target reset. This stage is also worth 100 total points. Shots placed closer to th...e kill zone receive more points. (Sorry this is so short.)
