Get in touch with your local theatre (or any theatre for that matter)...show them your keen, ask to be considered as a casual worker (all theatres have them, its basically someone who is called in, usually at short notice and usually just for a day or so at a time....or it could be to do fit ups and get outs etc or operate follow spots on shows..... See Moreall that sort of thing). The most important thing is have the right attitude and make yourself available. Bery often when a job finally does come up in that theatre, if you're skilled enough, you will have much more of a chance of getting it is you have done casual work there and proved yourself....thats my advice anyway!! Hope it helps.

Cameron

Cameron Hello everyone, I am your worst nightmare! Unschooled, no formal training, and yet somehow, technical director for a small professional theater in Souderton, PA. I have a 20 year background in local volunteer theater (we don't like the phrase "community theater" - hiss!) and have been weilding dangerous power tools s...ince I was 12. I've been an actor, am still ocassionally a director, but mostly am a set builder, and special effects designer and builder. I dabble in sound design with some rudimentary software. I am often accused of not taking myself seriously enough for the work I do, but when I see how much there still is to learn, I feel like my 30+ years of tinkering doesn't amount to very much. My theater hires designers and scenic artists, and I build their visions. I learn something amazing from each and every one of them. So, if you are one of those people, thank you. And if you have the opportunity to pass along your knowledge, we tinkerers are grateful for it. Cameron

No and no. They're a new company just starting up so we're keeping our fingers crossed for their success. Great people so we wish them the best. Unfortunately they're unable to offer Equity contracts yet so I didn't audition.

Philip Elhai

Philip Elhai I've been in love with the knobs and dials of Backstage since I was in 6th Grade and my older sister perofrmed in Wait Until Dark. UCLA provided me with an extremely well-rounded degree, after which I've designed sets, lights, and makeup. My most recent work was in May; I designed and executed Make-Up for Driving Mis...s Daisy in Claremont, CA (about 35 miles east of Los Angeles) -- the characters aged 25 years over the course of the play, and they weren't spring chickens to begin with (72 and 62 - the characters, not the actors). I, too, was privileged to serve as president of my Thespian Troupe (#2129), and have helped staff backstage at the CA State Thespian Festival for the last 15 years or so, most recently leading the student All-State Carpentry Crew. What an incredible experience seeing the talented of the youth of America!!!

Cammery Blevins I've been doing theatre what could be considered my entire life. I started loving acting, but then in my sophomore year of high school I found the costume shop, and because of what i like to call the five minute rule I answered the calling to be a costume designer. I am currently preparing to design costumes for the Em...ily Ann Theater in Wimberly, Texas. Its a small theater with an amazing spirit. Anyway this seems like a good group and I'm excited its here.
