It's a shame that people can't see the difference between a politician and a representative--that alone shows how defunct the status quo is. Without a few thousand more representatives, we are edging on delusional when we call ourselves a democracy of any sort.

I am a big fan of this effort. Proportional representation along with efforts like No sheriff left behind. All acted on in unison will be the only way to restore a workable constitution. Smaller Goverment people recoil at the concept of more representatives... Vote them out they say. Politics would not be so devicive if the 49% majority were ... See Moreindeed protected from the 51% majority by a Federal Gov limited in its duties by the constitution. Most people would be hard pressed to find an area of life directly influenced.

My first reaction is that there are better poster-boys for your cause than Washington ... one of the wealthiest and most elitist of the founders. He sided finally with the Federalists. Wouldn't your movement be better represented by a prominent ANTI-federalist? Someone identified with the legislature of the people?

Is your point that the Federalists opposed the expansion of the size of the House of Representatives or that they thought the House of Representatives was an elitist body?

From my own understanding of the drafting of the Constitution, the House of Representatives was never intended to be an elitist body even by the "elitist" drafters of the Constitution.

In any event, Washington pushed for the House districts to be smaller- down to 30,000 per district rather than the proposed 40,000. Here's a National Review article on it: ... See More
