It seems each Song of America recital you do has different songs than the other Song of America recitals--like you can't decide which songs to put in and leave out. I love them all. You know so much--you're brilliant. I am so glad you changed your major in college from political science to music. Thank you to Sister Marietta, too!

This is a nice review/blog entry. I think his point about regional accents is well taken; I noticed the same thing in some of these songs, both at the SF recital and on the 'Wondrous Free' CD. The reality is that we no longer hear a lot of these accents and speech patterns because people just don't speak in these ways any more. So some of the ... Read Morespeech patterns in some of these songs sound a bit alien. We can still see these patterns written, and therefore read them, in novels (in Sinclair Lewis, for instance); and we can sometimes hear them spoken in plays (Thornton Wilder comes to mind). So it's good that these patterns and accents are preserved -- and thus being heard -- in these songs.
