As far as I'm concerned, as a taxpayer, I think 1.2 BILLION dollars in overpayment of welfare over the past 6 years should be repaid to the taxpayers in the form of a repeal of the HST rape of Ontarians.

I would like to add that along with the other abuses mentioned in the video, the LTB and the LAO are running a cartel and should be dismantled....small time landlords are being ruined financially because of the LTB/RTA and LAO- and to add to your comment Michael- we had a welfare recipient not only not pay us rent, but when we finally had her ... See Moreevicted through the extremely unfair and inefficent joke of a Landlord Tenant Board, she trashed our home...and guess what she walks away scot-free.......so not only are there overpayments in welfare, but some are making double when they dont pay the landlord...a welfare cheque is supposed to help them cover their housing portion.....we need to go to housing and food vouchers for welfare....very simple concept people!!!

Maybe you should ask the Police, your new friends, to come to Vaughan. Did you read the STAR article? Regional Councilor Frustaglio's son was given more than $1 million dollars in contracts WITHOUT tenders.
Didn't she run for the Conservatives in 2001? Makes sens why you send Sherman the attack dog to shut down the residents of Vaughan.

Thanks, Troy, for the revelation about Andrew Steele! I wonder what types of jobs they are talking about--other than those jobs spawned and spun off by implementing the HST!

Thank you very much. Today Dalton McGuinty has been caught trying to rush through the largest sales tax grab in Ontario history without even a token attempt to first consult with hardworking Ontario families & retirees who have the most to lose...

McGuinty and Smitherman could have just got the money back from eHealth. That should cover it.

In a recession, it is pretty unsound to take money out of every working person's paycheck. When it comes time for that raise, either it will be denied, or businesses will need to charge more. Which everyone agrees results in increased costs...and inflation.

McGuinty, where's Ontario's money? And why is your hand in our pocketbook without asking?... See More

I like the idea of Tim suspending the Ontario Land Transfer Tax! Well, even if it's only a year, that's a good start...and when he sees how much it stimulates the real estate market, triggering more economic growth in other sectors, for sure it could be extended! Right, Tim?

Finally someone with initiative and brains speaking out in Ontario! Great idea with suspending the Ontario Land Transfer Tax for a year. However, I really think exempting the sale of new homes and real estate commissions from the HST would also continue the rise in the real estate market which has been the only sector of the economy that has not been affected by the recession!

@Patricia Lam Sun-- I most heartily agree with you that new homes and all realtor commissions should be exempt, but I would go further and exempt ALL fees attached to real estate transactions. By themselves, these fees already eat up a lot of buyers' savings that could go toward building up their equity, like increasing their downpayments so they'll pay off their mortgages faster!

The Province need to introduce a benefits program for small business owners that will allow for dentail and medicine. The Federal Government is considering something but we should not have to wait for them. If Dalton can give money to his big corporate friends, he should be able to give to the largest population of businesses in the province, small business, which happens to feed 64% of the provinces employees.

Unfortunately, Rick, even though the Liberals are booted out next election, the HST has to stay for five years. Dalton and Harper have that written in the contract for the implementation of the HST. Once in place, we are stuck with it.... :(

Settle down, Jason. I'm a card carrying Conservative supporter, but that doesn't mean the Conservatives get a free ride. I still want to know what Hudak has planned for this tax thievery. Like, does he plan on exempting things like hydro and heating fuels.

Unfortunately, you're right. McLiar stuck it to us good. But nothing is written in stone, and there are options. I just wish Hudak will tell us what they are.

How does this amount affect our daily lives? How about our children's lives and their children's lives?

Using Ontario's current 2009-10 budget, here is what our predicted $24.7 BILLION deficit compares to: Ontario's entire take from the personal income taxes of all Ontarians is about $25.2 billion. You could virtually eliminate our income tax with that amount of extra money, or put another way, to erase this year's deficit, Dalton would have to virtually DOUBLE the income taxes of all Ontarians.

Ontario spends about $42.2 billion a year on health care. Imagine how much extra health care that $24.7 BILLION could have bought for Ontarians.... See More

Ontario spends (annually) $2.1 B on Transportation, $2.2 B on Community Saftey and Correctional Services, $4.4 B on Children and Youth Services, $6.2 B on College and Universities and $8.3 B on Community and Social Services. With an extra $24.7 BILLION you could more than DOUBLE the services in ALL of those ministries.

With an extra $24.7 B you could virtually eliminate both the Retail Sales Tax $17.6 B) and the Corporations Tax ($8.5 B)in Ontario.

In the current year, Ontario will spend (waste) $9.3 Billion to pay interest on our current debt. Start adding amounts like $24.7 BILLION per year to the total debt load, and billions more will be paid every year by you and me to service this Liberal folly - dollars that cannot be used to improve services, or to cut taxes to make us more competitive.

Rather than being in a position to compete for business opportunities as Canada emerges from the recession, Ontario will be buried far behind the 8-ball by the unconscionable structural deficit built up by the Dalton McGuinty Liberals during their first 6 years in office. It is a tragedy that we have to wait two more years to have an election because Ontario cannot afford two more years of Dalton McGuinty's Liberals' stunning lack of fiscal responsibility.
