- I would like to thank the people of the 1st Congressional District for once again placing their confidence in me to be their Representative in Congress. Representing our community in Congress is the honor of my lifetime. As someone who was born on Long Island, worked here and raised a family here, this community is very special to me.
The evening of Election Night is about politics and celebration, but with the next day’s dawn comes the responsibility of governing. There are so many challenges facing our nation, including the need to improve our economy for the middle class, reduce energy prices by investing in alternative fuels and fund veterans health and education.
Like any job, I always believe that I am on a learning curve. Anyone who thinks they know everything is usually far too young, far too foolish or both. But by listening and learning from the men and women in our community, I feel that today I am a better Congressman than I was two years ago, and I believe I will be even more effective two years from now.
