Tomahawk Desktop Good news, upgrade Virtuoso to ver. 6.1.0 solved Virtuoso crashing. We now left with the plasma-desktop crash issue. We have a much updated OS compared to FreeBSD. We have KDE 4.4 RC3, Qt 4.6.1, Xorg 7.5, etc. Please let us know, if anyone interested to download the Tomahawk Desktop Beta2 to dissect and see what preven...t us releasing a full-blown desktop OS based on rock solid BSD? We can release it within a day.

Tomahawk Desktop Tomahawk Desktop status: KDE 4.4 RC3 also crashes on start up. This is due to that KDE4.4 RC3 is not compatible with FreeBSD. FreeBSD developers are currently working on this issue. We will keep the Tomahawk Desktop fans updated. For more info, please visit the kde-freebsd mailing list.

We have upgraded the Tomahawk Desktop to the Qt 4.6 (RC1+, the git version). The issue we faced earlier that Akonadi and other KDE4 components cannot compile on Tomahawk Desktop now has been resolved. We have compiled the KDE 4.3.3 but when boot to graphical mode, the KDE4 greeter crashes...

Tomahawk Desktop Update: We are experiencing a technical issue in graphical mode. We have so far installed over 500 packages. The FreeBSD is just one of them. We are now upgrading the Qt to the latest 4.6-beta as a possible solution and all of its dependencies. If we still cannot bring up the KDE 4.3.3, we plan to release as it is so t...hat all could help us to bring this commercial compatible OS up.

Sounds like a good idea and should help sort out any bugs. Any chance of you providing some screenshots or video of the desktop thus far.

It was discovered early this month that Readline (ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/readline/) is a GPL licensed library. The Readline is part of the Tomahawk Core and installed long time ago. Although we very carefully take note, we have some how missed to note that Readline is GPL...

To resolve local hosts using mDNSResponder, it is necessary to add mdns to the hosts line of /etc/nsswitch.conf as follows:
hosts: files mdns dns

Please read following portion of man 5 nsswitch.conf:
"FreeBSD's Standard C Library (libc, -lc) provides stubs for compatibility with NSS modules written for the GNU C Library nsswitch interface. However, these stubs only support the use of the ``passwd'' and ``group'' databases."... See More

We need /lib/libnss_mdns.so.2 to load at run-time. Does this means FreeBSD doesn't support for hosts databases in order to resolve local hosts using mDNSResponder?

Is there any possibility either for you or someone else to investigate is this is the case?

Btw, we plan to setup mailing lists after the Tomahawk Desktop is released.
