TravelSense The State Dept. recently announced a 35% increase in the cost of new passports. Meanwhile, the President signed the Travel Promotion Act. Seems a little at odds--promoting travel to the US while discouraging travel from the US. The overlooked fact is that outbound travel by Americans helps US-owned hotel chains, travel... agents, tour ops, cruise lines, car hires and more. Good move? What do you think?

It seems that when we take a few steps forward, there are always a few cracks in the pavement to trip us a little. Excited about promoting travel to the US. Not at all excited about raising the cost of passports. We've just gotten our clients used to the idea of needing the passport. Now we have to tell them that it's gonna cost 35% more to get it. Just one travel agent's opinion. - Margie Jordan, ASAP Travel

Difficult when a "family" is getting their passports for the first time. Before the increase it could easily amount to hundreds of dollars for a family of 4. Can't imagine what it will be now. Planning early is definitely a necessity. -Margie Jordan, ASAP Travel

TravelSense So, the Senate has signed the Travel Promotion Act, and it's headed to Obama for signature. It's hoped that with its passage the US will see more international visitors but the program is being funded in part by a $10 levy on visiting citizens of the 35 visa-waiver countries. Will it work or drive more people away? What do you think of the plan?

how is taxing the people who are supposed to be coming here going to be benficial?

Although pleanty of countries already have entrance and exit taxes but would they have more visitors if there wasn't this visitor's tax? Americans love getting a tax refund for buying stuff in the EU. Seems we're doing the opposite.

TravelSense What do you think about the airlines' policy of a la carte pricing? Like it? Hate it? Rather not think about it?

Airlines have taken the pleasure and joy away from a vacation. There no longer is the smiling face that greets at the airport, just a collection agent or in other words, a human vending machine. That reminds you, the start of your joyous vacation will begin with an over abundance of money making fee's.
You would think that after the 9/11 attacks, ... See Moreairlines would go out of there way to bring back the traveling public. It has been 8 years almost and instead they have lost thousands of customers and cut service to several destinations. This has repeatedly happened year after year since that horrific tragedy.
It is apparent that they need to rethink there marketing strategy and encourage people to travel again.
This would also include the business men that would travel to meet there customers one on one. The airlines have lost out this market share too. Why do you need to travel by air when you can do an online meeting. How impersonable is this?
Personal Service and Respect have disappeared in the eyes of the Airlines. Air travelers are now looked upon as the new SUCKERS. Airline's Attitude! If want to go on my plane I must resort to extortionary measures, charge you added fees!

Yes, I have some tips. Call Mighty Motion Travel at 860-489-7157 and book that cruise right away. Ask for Sharon. There's nothing like a cruise to make things right. It's a journey you'll never forget. Cruise lines are finally getting wise to the fact that not everyone has a partner. Take advantage of the offer now that they are not adding the single supplement, making it more affordable to travel alone. HAPPY CRUISING!!! HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON!
