Mine are down right scarey and excellent watch dogs. These athletic bred types are great for a disciplined program, competeing, hunting etc. But when it comes to an average full time working/occasional hunting family-they are not the best choice. In my opinion Labs are over bred and becomming uncontrollable. Dogs now must have high energy to ... See Morecompete at high levels in hunt tests/field trials.These enegy levels are way too high for aveage families. The problem is that you cant controll how many pups are born in a litter. And some pups must be sold as family pets where they are not exercised properly. It's sad because it's the human who desires the fame and recognition from titles and competition, not the dog. The dog is happy to please us no matter who we are. jmho

When the Old Black Lab was young I used to have people get out of their trucks and say things like; "Nice German Shepherd, but I'm worried about the black dog :>) He was all bark but a lot of it :>)
