The Tulsa Zoo Elephants Cordially invite you to celebrate the 59th birthday of one of Tulsa Zoo’s largest (and oldest!) residents, Gunda the Asian Elephant! The zoo will be gearing up for a party of mammoth proportions the week of November 16th where the birthday girl will be sharing her GIANT birthday cake with all ...her friends. It’s Gunda’s party and although she can cry if she wants to, she’d probably just rather have her cake and eat it too! Don’t forget to come out and wish Gunda a very Happy Birthday!
Time:11:00AM Wednesday, November 18th
Location:Tulsa Zoo, Elephant Demonstration Yard

The sounds of the Tulsa Zoo are unmistakable; the roar of the lion, the hoot of the chimpanzee, the toot of a . . . trumpet? You heard correctly, in fact, you’ll be hearing a symphony of sounds as the Tulsa Zoo hosts a very special performance by the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Saturday, November 14th beginning at 2:00 ...pm.
The Tulsa Symphony Orchestra will be bringing their signature sound to the Tulsa Zoo’s new indoor venue, the Chapman Event Lodge. As a special treat after the performance, you’ll get the chance to meet the musicians and learn about the different instruments with a unique “petting zoo” experience.
The Tulsa Zoo and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra are also partnering to offer Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America a very special treat as well. For the day of November 14th, any child or “Little” will get free admission with paid adult admission! If you are interested in becoming a “Big”, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tulsa will be on hand with information on how you can be part of their amazing organization.
So bring the whole family and enjoy the swingin’ sounds of the jungle and amazing performances by the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. There are two performances, with the first at 2:00pm and second at 3:00pm. Both will be followed by a “petting zoo” where the kiddos will have the opportunity to meet the musicians and see just how their musical instruments really work and sound.
This event is open to the public so, for all you big brothers and sisters out there bring your “littles” and we encourage the rest of you to bring out your little ones and enjoy an afternoon filled with the wild sounds of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra as they get to swingin’ with the Tulsa Zoo! Until then, remember that it’s a jungle out there!

Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum A new lovely female giraffe has arrived safely to the Tulsa Zoo! The 9-year old female giraffe from the Santa Barbara Zoo completed a long journey and arrived Wednesday afternoon. The trailer containing Samburu’s newest friend maneuvered carefully into the exhibit. With a bit of encouragement, the caramel-colored bea...uty showed her face to Tulsa Zoo employees for the first time. A bit later, she got her first glimpse of “Sam” in the barn. The now-unnamed California girl now has access to the giraffe exhibit yard for zoo guests to see.

The Tulsa Zoo is welcoming two long-legged additions this fall, but it’s a long road to bring these two reticulated giraffes to their new home. Tulsa Zoo is launching “Operation Roadtrip: Giraffes” to help bridge the gap and we need your help!
The Tulsa Zoo has been on a mission to bring our guy Samburu, or “Sam”, a new... friend since the loss of his female companion, Georgina , last summer. After a long search, not only did we find one lovely lady giraffe, we found two! And with your help, we hope to introduce them to Samburu soon.
One giraffe is a 9-year-old female from the Santa Barbra Zoo in California and the other 5-year-old female from The Wilds near Columbus , OH . These adventurous gals will be traveling over almost 2,500 miles to their new home in Tulsa , OK ! The twosome is scheduled to arrive by mid-October, but there are many miles to travel, and most importantly, many dollars that must be raised before these lanky creatures can be united.
The Tulsa Zoo is joining forces with Burger King and Taco Bueno in an unprecedented partnership to bring two giraffes to Tulsa . And the solution is delicious! For a donation of just $1, you will receive a limited-edition coupon book with nearly $20 worth of delicious food, drinks and fun FREE merchandise from Burger King, Taco Bueno and the Tulsa Zoo! These coupon books will be available October 1st at all area Burger King and Taco Bueno locations and at your Tulsa Zoo. Not only will your wallet and taste buds enjoy the treat, but your donation will help bring two new giraffes to your Tulsa Zoo. And what a great alternative to candy for stuffing those trick-or-treat bags this year!
You can also help make “Operation Roadtrip” a success by helping us name the two new giraffes by choosing your favorite name onsite at the zoo by voting, or ‘donating’, your dollars. The name that has the most ‘votes’ wins! The winning names will be announced November 1st, so cast your vote today! Also, stop by donation boxes at Build A Bear and Banana Republic stores around town and show some love by adding your dollars to the box. Every little bit helps!
So get your coupons good for yummy treats and great deals from area Taco Bueno and Burger King locations October 1 through October 18, or at the Tulsa Zoo for only $1. Every dollar goes directly back to the Tulsa Zoo to fund the transport of these two giraffes, thanks to our “Operation Roadtrip: Giraffes” sponsors, Burger King and Taco Bueno. Additional “thanks” to donation box sponsors, Build A Bear and Banana Republic. For more information about how you can help, contact Lindsay Hutchison at 918-669-6637 or by email at lhutchison@tulsazoo.org.
