UA Freshman Engineering Students Present Collaborative ‘Light as Material’ Projects
Freshman engineering students have been hard at work designing working lights to enhance a few areas on The University of Alabama campus. They will present their projects Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in 240 H.M. Comer Hall.

Nichole Ramirez, a senior majoring in aerospace engineering from El Paso, Texas, was selected as one of almost 100 undergraduate students nationwide to participate in NASA’s Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology Scholarship Program for a second consecutive year.

Engineering and computer science alumni and friends are invited to join the Capstone Engineering Society on Oct. 17 for this year’s Homecoming Tailgate Party. Join us on the Shelby Science and Engineering Quad to cheer for the Crimson Tide against the South Carolina Gamecocks!

Festivities begin three hours before kickoff. Bring a lawn chair and make plans to stay a while. We’ll have balloons and face tattoos for kids and a big screen TV so you won’t miss any of the gridiron action.

Capstone Engineering Society members receive two complimentary meals. Additional meals may be purchased for $10. Children under 8 years old are free.

The University of Alabama College of Engineering will host Engineering Day (E-Day), an open house for high school students and their families, on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

E-Day gives prospective students a closer look at the College of Engineering, according to Dr. Kevin Whitaker, associate dean of aca...demic programs, and participants will receive a realistic view of how engineering skills are used in everyday life. All interested students, counselors, teachers and parents are invited to attend.

Laboratory tours and exhibits will be offered in aerospace engineering and mechanics; chemical and biological engineering; civil, construction and environmental engineering; computer science; electrical and computer engineering; mechanical engineering; and metallurgical and materials engineering. Engineering students and faculty will be available to answer questions throughout the day.

Information also will be provided on college preparation, housing, scholarships, financial aid, admissions, and honors programs.
