They asked me: "'How do you make your pictures?' I was puzzled . . . "I said, 'I don't know, it's not important.' - Henri Cartier-Bresson

Uncommondepth Retail therapy may be required, while in the city, to soothe my disappointment. New camera gear may result. ;-)

Uncommondepth My show opening on Friday suffered from poor attendance. It is no surprise that I count the years until we can leave this community. Although it could well have been the panic over this damn swine flu that kept people home. Whatever the reason, I am off to Calgary today to help out with the ASA at Lougheed House for the upcoming Festive Show - and to restore my faith in myself!

Wish I could've gone - I'd have been there in a hearbeat. But don't let this situation hold you back! Persistence is everything!

You may be onto something if you know you're in the wrong location. Big accomplishments sometimes mean big risks, like moving.

Your work is beautiful and important - keep at it! - don't let poor attendance at a show deter you. It's a minor event in the big picture of your work.

Ummm.....okay. I submitted an image of Land Of The Rising Sun for a gallery project down in New York (of all places). I got the following message back today. "If I'm not mistaken, the image of your artwork is terribly out of focus. Please explain so that we figure out a solution together." You're kidding, right? I ju...st don't know how to reply to that, except to say "I don't think my work is appropriate for your project".

I get that not everyone will like or appreciate my impressionist landscape images, but how in heck could a gallery owner not "get it"?

Daniel, no it wasn't. Jeri Lynn, I don't know how, the submission was the same image here. When viewed at full size there are some textural details visible. It's fine to not like it or whatever, but I just don't understand how they could think it wasn't meant to look like that.

The Land of Possibility series of images is represented by the Latin phrase Posse Ad Esse: from being able to being; from possibility to reality. We live in a land of possibility; a land shaped by the dreams of man. The people that came before us, the people that are here now, and the people who have yet to come; they ...all influence what exists and how we view reality. They will be the ones that define the truths or untruths of tomorrow.

The images in this series look at the world around us and how the possibilities of yesterday are the realities of today , and the realities of today may become tomorrow’s possibilities. I create images that question and challenge the ideas of reality and if we can create our own possibilities by looking at the world through our dreams instead of through our eyes. By taking pieces of different images I am creating stories that may some day be seen as reality. In the process, I am trying to see if I can train my eyes to see what might be instead of what is.

Opening reception is Friday, February 5th 6 - 9 PM.

I had a couple of conversations over the Thanksgiving weekend that really got me thinking. As photographers, do we look at the world differently than most? Do we have an eye that sees things nobody else can see? Do we pay attention to the tiniest details that escape other people? It started with a...
