If you are a passionate walker or climber and love the mountains, you will find it difficult to resist the lure of the big Alpine peaks and will love this week!
http://www.undiscoveredalps.com/pages/Al pinism-Southern-French-Alps
Please have a look at the Summits of the Southern Alps itinerary for more detail. http://www....undiscoveredalps.com/pages/Summits-of-So uthern-Alps-Itinerary
This is a progressive week of mountaineering and alpinism taking in three spectacular peaks of the Southern French Alps including L'Obiou 2789m (Grade: facile / easy), Les Rouies 3589m (Grade: facile / easy) and either the Sirac 3444m (Grade: peu difficile / bit more difficult) or L'Olan 3564m (Grade: peu difficile / bit more difficult).
For more information about the grades please have a look at our mountaineering and alpinism page. http://www.undiscoveredalps.com/pages/Mo untaineering-and-Alpinism
No previous experience of mountaineering or alpinism is necessary but a good level of walking fitness and some scrambling experience is required.
Two of the summits involve easy glacier crossings where you will be roped up and using ice axes and crampons and some scrambling or easy climbing, which you will usually do in big boots - again roped up.
A real taste of classic mountaineering and alpinism off the beaten track!
Although this isn't a 'course' as such, our guides are not just there to lead the way and look after your safety. They are enthusiastic and passionate ambassadors of the mountains and are valuable sources of information about technique, mountain safety, the mountain flora and fauna, geology, mountaineering history ....
So, naturally over the course of the week you will pick up and learn what you want to.
PRICES: From 1169€ per person http://www.undiscoveredalps.com/pages/so uthern-alps-summits-prices
All Prices Include:
• 5 nights half board accommodation in a choice of either the Val Des Sources hotel or cheaper refuge accommodation in the valley (breakfast and dinner).
• 2 nights half board accommodation in high mountain refuges (breakfast and dinner).
• Picnics or hot lunches for scheduled activity days. When you are in the refuges you will get a hot lunch when you return from your summit rather than a picnic, but it is a good idea to have a few energy bars for these days as it is a long time from breakfast at 4 am to lunch time!
• 5 days guided mountaineering (ratio between 1:2 and 1:6 depending on summit)
• All technical equipment (harnesses, helmets, ice axes and crampons)
• Transport to and from scheduled activities
GETTING HERE
Once you are here all your transport needs are catered for. We don't include transfers from a local airport or train station in the price as there are so many ways to get here it seemed fairer and simpler to arrange this individually.
The closest you can get via public transport is Gap train station (which has good rail links from Marseille and Aix-en-Provence if you fly or train it there). A taxi from Gap is about 70€. However, it is also quite usual for people to hitch and generally lifts are easy to come by. Obviously you do this at your own risk.Read More

40 km of mud, rocks, hills and general mountian biking fun! Okay -
was a bit knackering. But I still win the stamina competition - Percy and Philippe were definitely flagging more than me after the second or was it the first refreshment stop! not that I am competitive or anything!

Undiscovered Alps Our first Danish clients - dad Ole and daughter Aisling climbing, walking, white water rafting, tree climbing and generally having fun in the Alps! They put this little montage together and sent it to me and it was so cool I had to share!

Undiscovered Alps Just been in the mountains with clients and am now suffering with stiff legs. Fantastic days!

Undiscovered Alps Yipeee!! Finally the sun has come out and to make up for the month of non-stop rain we have blue skies, beautiful green and lush vegetation everywhere and still snow on the peaks - beautiful! worth waiting for!

Undiscovered Alps A variety of photos of some of the walks in the area. Walking in the Alps - accessible to all!

Undiscovered Alps We've just had unbelievable rain, storms and wind! The rivers are in spate and the french authorities have banned kayakers from all local rivers! The Drac just below my house is a raging torrent of chocolate brown!! Hoping for the sun to come back soon!
