The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a new resolution that could effectively demand a blockade against Iran -- an act that would be widely seen as an act of war and could invite Iranian retaliation, possibly leading us into a shooting war.

Over the last three weeks, 77 House Democrats and 92 Republicans have agreed to cosponsor this resolution, but we think many do not realize its dangerous implications.

We urge you to ask your representative not to support this dangerous step toward war with Iran: http://capwiz.com/justforeignpolicy/issues/alert/?alertid=11518951

I want to call my local representative for the talk to Iran but I don't know how to start the call. I saw an update with a 1-800 number. If anyone has any suggestions please message me. Thanks, I'm a bit shy unless I feel strongly about it. I would like to do this for everyone. It's all I can do.

Apparently the Senate doesn't think there are enough fallen soldiers to honor this Memorial Day, so they have passed a funding bill to extend the Iraq war and occupation past Memorial Day 2009. And were they even thinking of the potentially thousands of Iraqis who will die? To add to the moral repugnance of the Senate's actions, they have tied important programs including GI and unemployment benefits to the Iraq funding bill. Vets can get college tuition, but they'll need to spend another year in Iraq first. Thank you!

In an amazing turn of events, the House of Representatives today voted AGAINST the supplemental funding for the war in Iraq!!

The bill would have provided $166 billion in war funding, the largest single provision since the war started in 2003. In a move that no one expected, dozens of Republicans voted "present," which is the same as abstaining on the vote. This meant that the 149 NO votes were enough to defeat the bill. (141 votes were cast in favor.)

This is a tremendous victory for the antiwar movement. The hard work of people all around the country secured those 149 clear NO votes. Click here for the roll call to see how your representative voted: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll328.xml

But our work is far from over. Click here for information on what you can do to make sure this funding does not get passed! http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3893
