I know exactly what you're saying. BUT I'd say 500 non-students (at the very least) turn up every year. The only difference this year is it's been advertised.
As stated there are only a certain amount of tickets available outside the University, and when these are gone, they're gone. Every external will be required to wear black tie (which I think elimates the type of person Warren is referring to), and if any 'twats' turn up, they'll be thrown out.

The SU are selling limited amounts of tickets to the general public. The event costs over £140,000 to put on and the SU is only budgeted to break even. When that happens then it will again be student exclusive. The reality is that we will probably sell about 100-200 tickets externally (out of 3,600 tickets) (probably to students from elsewhere). The University have nothing to do with the event as it is organised by the SU. Neither of which are money grabbers!
Even if the event did make money, every penny goes back into funding sports teams, tone radio, space newspaper, refurbishing bars and all of the other student services that is offered.
So with regards to priorities they are firmly with the students, and always will be.
