University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center When Cancer Hits Early: 20- & 30-somethings coping with cancer -- Baltimore Sun story features survivor Amy Babst and our awesome young adult patient navigator Elizabeth Saylor (not "Sayers")...

Because the vast majority of cancer patients are retirement age or older, most support services are focused on the challenges faced by an aging population.

cancers that respond well to chemotherapy & radiation and have an
excellent prognosis. The ones associated with smoking & drinking
respond well, but not as well."

University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center Our beloved Dr. Nathan Schnaper has died at 92 -- an icon and father figure to all who worked at UMGCC. A psychiatrist known for his tough-love support for cancer patients & their families, he was universally loved...and will be sorely missed! http://ow.ly/2v8yG

      • Elsy Fox Beath Dr. Schnaper was a wonderful man, doctor and friend. Long after my husband was well, we stayed in touch with Dr. Schnaper and saw him as recently as June. He was a cheerleader, a champion for not just my husband but for me as well. We credit Dr. Schnaper with quite a bit of David's recovery. I am just finding out about his death now and I do not look forward to telling my husband this evening. My heart is broken. My sympathies go to his family & colleagues. I know very well how much he is going to be missed.

University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center We know the first visit to the cancer center can be scary, so we're filming a video walking tour of the center today. Folks will be able to watch it on the Web & know what to expect before they come in as a new patient. What part of the process did you find most confusing or intimidating? Any tips we should be sure to include??

Parking? It's the first thing you do, and if you're like me and my family, we don't do a lot of city driving. We were already really stressed out because I'd just gotten a preliminary diagnosis from my general practitioner a few hours ear...lier, and then we found ourselves trying to understand where we were going and where we should park.

Of course, in my situation, I didn't really have time to look the GCC up before I was already on my way there, so I don't know how helpful this would be for most people.

        • University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center Great point, Randy. You're right; parking is the first step--so we plan to show where the garage is, the valet parking station, and how to enter the cancer center. Thanks, and hope you ended up finding your way OK...
