Unschooling
Unschooling is homeschooling without a curriculum. It allows the student to follow her interests and abilities, without the constraints of schedules, busywork, grading and constant homework. One can also learn freely, without peer pressure cultures.

Unschooling A step in the right direction to elimination of pressure and competition on students in the public school system:

The province is planning to cancel fall report cards in elementary schools by September 2010, replacing them with a "progress report," which will update parents on how their child is doing without giving a letter grade.

Unschooling In answer to that old standby concern:

One of the most persistent criticisms of home-schooling is the accusation that home-schoolers will not be able to fully participate in society because they lack "socialization." It's a challenge ...

Have people noticed how the majority of children/adolescents behave at school recently? Not a pretty sight! I went to see my sister who was still teaching at the time while she was at "work" and with my two very young children passing alongside me, I thought we had entered a bar!

my daughter understands this, as she says that she wouldn't succumb to peer pressure if she had to attend school, but rather her energy would be sucked out from it and she wouldn't be as effective in her studies.

Natalie Chalmers I just found this (very lengthy) but wonderful essay on passion and purpose when, essentially, unschooling though the author doesn't call it that.
