Community Informatics Club Three CII/GSLIS students, Sarah Jackman, Damon McGhee and Jeanie Austin, all traveled to Sao Tome this summer to work on a number of interesting technology projects with the local community there. They shared their personal stories, successes, challenges, pictures and thoughts about the effort at this event. We also made pizza!

The CI club will be going up to the Community as Intellectual Space conference next weekend June 12-14!

If you’re interested in going go ahead and check out the informational page here: http://www.lis.illinois.edu/programs/cpd/CIS2009/index.html and LET JEFF GINGER KNOW YOU’RE COMING.

We’re going to combine as many p...eople as we can in as few cars as possible to save on gas. We’d also like to help people find places to stay so they can avoid hotel costs. If you know someone who lives downtown and could put up a few of us up for a night, please let me know where they live and how many could stay over. Likewise if you can drive let me know how many people your car can hold.

If you need either a ride or a place to stay tell me and I’ll see what I can do about hooking you up.

The conference registration fee is 95$ for the whole event or 30$ for just Friday night. You can apply for a scholarship to waive your fee, however. Mention you’re going as part of the community informatics club and feel the conference would greatly aid in your academic and professional development and this should increase your chances of being granted a fee waiver.

In regards to the scholarships - as stated off the website: “Submit a paragraph describing your interest in the Symposium and the reason for your request to both Symposium Co-Chairs: Ann Bishop (abishop@illinois.edu) and Alejandro Molina (alejandrom@prcc-chgo.org ).”

If you have any questions about any of this just let me know. I’m hoping *crosses fingers* we can have T-shirts ready by the conference!

Back by popular demand! Come join us at the Capstone Quarters common area to watch a movie in a full 24 person theater. Which film you say? Yours! Bring a DVD you'd like to share and we'll vote on which one the night of. Popcorn will be free, but it's BYOB, though there will probably be a few extra sodas available....

As usual we'll do tea and baked goods over discussion and games after the film in Jeff's apartment, #121. If you can't make the movie, you can always join us for this.

Consider this to be open invite - bring friends and enemies and let Jeff know if you have any questions!

DIRECTIONS: It's the last apartment complex before you hit 74 (heading north on Lincoln). The Silver MTD line runs up here, if you fancy the bus, or contact Jeff to arrange a ride. See pictures for more information.
