Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts Elliott Bean, longtime and beloved conductor of Usdan's Senior Chorus, passed away on January 2nd. Elliott conducted memorable performances at the old "Assembly" building, and at the McKinley Amphitheater. His studio was alive with energy, as Elliott coaxed and cajoled ...his students toward the highest possible artistic goals, while also caring for them with the affection of a parent. His chosen successor, Karen Lehman, now carries on these traditions. Elliott's favorite Usdan tradition was the annual end-of-season performance of "We Are One". These performances will be recreated at his funeral on Tuesday, January 5th, at 11:00 AM, at Setauket Methodist Church, 160 Main Street in East Setauket NY. Elliott will long be remembered at Usdan. Do. Do Re Do. Do Re Mi Re Do.......

Usdan artists to perform at the Metropolitan Museum:
Favorite artists of Usdan's Festival Concerts will appear at the Met Museum's Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium on Saturday, January 9th, at 7:00 PM. Performers include Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Monica Yunus, the distingui...shed Met Opera Soprano; Terry Cook, Bass-Baritone, whose DVD's include the Met Opera's production of A Masked Ball; and Caroline Stoessinger, pianist, musicologist, and Artistic Director of Tilles Center's Music at Hillwood. The program on January 9th will include music of Schumann, Schubert, and Mozart. Special student rush tickets are available at the hall for $15 on the night of the concert. Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts Lily McKinley passed away on November 30 2009. She was an esteemed concert pianist whose consummate good taste elevated her musical accomplishments to the highest level. She was the beloved wife of Andrew McKinley, the celebrated tenor and visionary arts educator. As Andrew established Usdan, Lily's enthusiasm provided... inspiration, support, and later, a great amphitheater named for her husband. The Board of Trustees shall miss this elegant and supportive colleague, and we welcome reminiscences from Usdan alumni.

News of Usdan registration has been heard on WNYC this month, as sponsor messages have been introducing the Center to prospective students and families. The messages air throughout November and December on 93.9 FM and on 820 AM.
Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts Early Registration Begins this Week! Applications for the 2010 Season are now available, and one will be mailed to last summer's students for arrival on Friday or Saturday.
