Vancouver’s contemporary dance scene is an eclectic blend of western and eastern influences, the traditional combined with the new. See new work by three very different Vancouver choreographers: Jai Govinda’s dance, The Monk and the Courtesan, retells a jataka Japanese Buddhist legend from the book, The Hungry Tigress. Emily Molnar will present two new works to music by contemporary composers Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, Michael Byron and Alvin Lucier. Peter Bingham’s work, an athletic duet performed by Chris Wright and Jacob Cino, explores distance -- far and close, physical and personal.
