Victoria Sulski

Victoria Sulski received her Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, in 1983.

She has taught various drawing and painting courses for the past seventeen years at places like Cabrillo College, Monterey Peninsula College, College of San Mateo, and Soledad Prison.

Passionate about her work, Victoria worked primarily in pastels, but was also proficient in oils. Stone carving provided an additional outlet for Victoria's desire to create dynamic forms.

Her work has been exhibited locally and nationally. She was the recipient of awards such as the Art of California Bronze award for painting. Victoria's commissioned portraits have been well-received.

"I believe that Nature is alive and that an animating spirit is immanent in all things.

All life mirrors the moon’s monthly journey: we are born, we grow full and fade away in old age. We are never static, always changing and hopefully evolving. A lifetime is composed of a succession of moments.

I have the ability to get to the heart of the matter and to select a moment. Just like a part of a hologram, the moment portrays the whole. I look for those moments. I pare down the nonessentials to reveal the bones of the subject. Some of the moments that I paint depict a character trait while other moments show a moment of insight or transformation.

Sometimes I paint a moment just as it is. No story line is necessary; there is the beauty of being, on how the light falls on the form or how a smile shows love.
