Northern Virginia Ethical Society
This Sunday, November 22, 2009, the Northern Virginia Ethical Society will be holding colloquy at 9:30 a.m. in the Arts Building at Green Hedges School. Colloquy is a time of quiet reflection centered on readings and musical interludes. Group members then share their thoughts and impressions.
The Arts Building is the wh...ite building across the parking lot. The Society is happy to provide accommodations for those with special needs. Please call Mary Ellen Stanton 703 631 7081 in advance.
Then come celebrate Stone Salad, a festival for all our members, friends and visitors where we share a potluck meal, donate canned goods, and indulge in good, old-fashioned friendship. Members, friends and visitors are welcome!

Ann Zabaldo of Takoma Village Cohousing will explain how cohousing works, and how you can apply its methods in your own neighborhoods right now.

Different volunteers, or our Leader, Jone Lewis, lead each session, and the topic is different each time. At a recent colloquy, for instance, the topic was "simplicity" -- and we explored that in all its complexity.

The United Coalition of Reason was founded at the beginning of 2009 and has been developing coalitions of local hu...manist, freethought, atheist, Humanistic Jewish, and Ethical Culture organizations all over the country. These coalitions are modeled on the successful Philadelphia Coalition of Reason.

Learn about an exciting new Sunday School curriculum featuring Harry Potter! Knowledge of the book series and most recent movie will help. The workshop is free, and a copy of the curriculum will be available for purchase at $25.00 for an individual or $50.00 for an organization. A philosophical and fun workshop for ages 10-110 offered by the Amy Anderson and Hugh Taft-Morales of the Northern Virginia Ethical Society. Discuss the differing ethical perspectives of the magical and muggle world. Debate the importance of friendship and loyalty in Harry Potter's life. This interactive workshop mixes ethical and philosophical insights into anaylzing the story of Harry Potter from inside and out. Looking at Harry's life as an example of a life full of ethical challenges, as well as from the outside as a product of J. K. Rowling's imagination, this workshop offers a new way to appreciate this modern masterpiece.
