Dave and Rita Troxel will be coordinating Sojourn's Shoes for Orphan Souls campaign. Shoes for Orphan Souls is a non-profit organization that has distributed more than 1.6 million pairs of new shoes to at-risk children in the United States and to orphans in 55 countries around the world. While their program has made a ...difference in many lives, there are still millions of children we can reach – all through a pair of shoes. Sojourn will be collecting donations of new shoes, socks and shoelaces during the month of November. If you want additional information on Shoes for Orphan Souls, visit their site at

Hey, Phil Barnes here!
Wow, what a powerful Sojourn tonight! Two incredible object lessons directly related to vows, I couldn't believe it! Did anyone get video or a great picture of Kevin getting his head shaved by the way?

I'm really excited about our current series and will be posting information on the four ways we p...lan to help people during the 2008-2009 school year. Look for more information on that and thank you for your vow to Zach tonight!Read More

A message from Rick Pino:

Dear Sojourn friends,
I have been a team captain for the team, "Ryan's Hope," for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk for the past 5 years. I walk for my nephew, Ryan Pino, who was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 18 months old. I'm happy to say that Ryan is now 9 years old... and his Leukemia is in remission. This is an opportunity for Sojourn to do something good in our community. It is an opportunity for you to help fight cancer by:

- joining the Light the Night team

- Making a personal contribution

- Raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to use for critical research and services for patients and their families.

Light the Night is an evening walk to celebrate and commemorate the lives of people touched by cancer. Walkers hold illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters, gold in memory of a life lost - and light the night with hope. The Walk culminates in a community celebration with music, refreshments, and entertainment - where friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers, and others come together to demonstrate their support for cancer patients.

Team members raise funds by encouraging others to contribute. Funds will be used for research to find cures for blood cancers - Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma - and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

As team captain, I encourage you to become involved in this worthwhile endeavor. You can help me either as a sponsor or walker. If you sponsor me, it is a flat donation of whatever you feel led to give. As a walker, you are responsible for collecting sponsors and walking in the Light the Night Walk. If you would like to help in either facet of the walk, you can reach me by cell (856) 371-8767 or e-mail rfpino08051@hotmail.com.

Anyone who wants to fight cancer is invited to join. No particular level of fitness is required.
We encourage every walker to beat the national average amount ($200) by setting their individual goal to at least $250. I'll give you information on how to go about it. Our team goal is $1500.

The need for cures is critical: every 5 minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer death among children and young adults under the age of 20.

Fundraising rewards: All participants raising $100 or more will receive an illuminated balloon and a T-shirt to wear during the Walk. Walkers raising $300, $500, $1000, $2500 or more can receive other great incentives. Visit www.lightthenight.org for more information on our incentives.

I hope you can be part of my team and join me for this very special evening. You'll enjoy yourself. And you'll make a difference in the lives of others.

- Rick Pino

Fact: There are nearly 144 million orphans.
Fact: Malnutrition plays a part in more than ½ all child deaths.
Fact: Nearly one in four people, live on less than $1 per day.
Fact: You can make CHANGE.

Our group has decided to make a difference. We heard about Today’s Orphan Crisis. We know there are millions of kids, made vu...lnerable by HIV/AIDS, poverty, and other circumstances. We know it’s a big problem. But we also know we are called to be part of the solution.

So, here’s a simple step. Take a Rice Bowl.

Rice Bowls are available at Sojourn. We'll collect them on May 18th.
