Hi WFMT!
I just found out from my husband today that on January 2nd, 2010, that his name, Peter D. Rodzen was aired that day when the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation was on the air and the violin that he had made was also being played by one of the students. My husband and I did not get to hear it. Can we please get a recording of that show possibly?

WFMT All day Tuesday we'll celebrate Alfred Brendel's 79th and Maurizio Pollini's 68th. Who are some of your favorite pianists? Join the discussion here...or call us at 773-279-2174 and leave a message. You may hear yourself on 98.7 or wfmt.com.

WFMT Streaming is back at wfmt.com. Sorry for the outage.

Re: Favorite pianists
There are so many, but I would have to include Gunnar Johansen, the Danish-born virtuoso who taught at the University of Wisconsin for many years. In fact, he was the first artist-in-residence at any American university.
In the early 70's, I took his "Music in Performance" course and was blown away... by his virtuoso versions of Romantic-era staples like the Liszt B minor Sonata and Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy. He specialized in Romantic music and co-founded a Romantic piano festival in Indianapolis with his friend Jorge Bolet.
I had the privilege of meeting him once for a radio interview and he was most gracious and multi-faceted--a true Renaissance man.
Unfortunately, he did not make too many commercial recordings. A staunch individualist, he didn't want to be limited by the repertoire that major labels wanted to impose on him, so he started his own label. I don't think any of his LP's have ever been transfered to CD.
In researching this post, I have discovered a new web site devoted to him: http://www.gunnarjohansen.org/
Apparently, some of his recordings are still available in analog cassette and LP.

Dale Lipschultz Steamboat Springs (and the rest of the world) is mighty quiet without WFMT. Any word on when you'll will be back online?

Earlier version with its wrong final note now corrected and overall audio volume raised. Note: Slight audio "hickup" in the beginning may be the result of extra A/V synchronisation and enforced 4:3 video format being needed.

Sonia Csaszar Sonia Csaszar I loved the Beethoven's festival because we heard more chamber music instead of the usual 9th , 5th and 7th symphonies. The beauty of a festival is to have the ability to hear the evolution in the composer's life span.
