WWF Singapore Rhino poaching surges in Asia, Africa according to a new report by TRAFFIC and IUCN. The trade is being driven by Asian demand for horns and is made worse by increasingly sophisticated poachers, who now are using veterinary drugs, poison, cross bows and high caliber weapons to kill rhinos. The report also raises conc...erns regarding the low and declining numbers in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has come up with ten proposals for them to consider at the meeting. These include the setting up of an annual US$160 ...billion fund for a five-year period and creating a legally binding framework to address climate change issues. WWF is also urging world leaders to develop specific action plans like cutting down emissions from industrialised nations by 50 per cent by the year 2020.

Protected areas can help mitigate all but the largest natural disasters from floods, landslides, tsunamis, typhoons, storms, drought, fire and earthquakes. The World Bank says that every $1 invested in a good disaster reduction saves $7 in losses from natural disasters.
